About this listen

A shockingcrime thriller from top 50 bestselling author, Ross Greenwood

It's hard to live when you think you deserve to die…

When a tired old inmate is found dead in his cell, the prison is obligated to investigate and so DI Barton attends. The men he interviews have been convicted of some of the worst things a human being can do, but it appears likely that the death was due to natural causes.

When the house of the dead man is burgled and that crime is followed by a suspicious fire, Barton desperately needs to speak to his widow, but she’s nowhere to be found.

In the space of twenty-four hours, everyone he wants to talk to has vanished. Then he receives some post which makes him believe he could be the next to disappear.

Barton’s investigation goes full circle, through a series of brutal murders, back to the prison, and all signs are pointing to the fact that he’s made a terrible mistake.

There’s a violent killer on the loose, who wants everyone to learn that some people deserve to die.

Just completed the 4 books - almost one after the other as couldn’t get enough. Each book is an independent story however with each book I got to know the main characters - D.I Barton, Strange and Zander, brilliantly narrated too. I also got into the head of each killer which gave me an understanding of the crimes. Recommend all novels

This book in the series has left me wanting more and yet completely satisfied. I kinda want the whole plan of how they all came together to plan it and yet feel if it was told at the end by someone looking back or having a flash back that it would spoil it. I am planing to reread this or listen again if you prefer, but first I would like to also complement the author how he has woven the characters lives though all the books I this series.

Fan of the series

So good

I find I have to keep going back and forth to find where I went to sleep but this is not a reflection on this audiobook! My wife always says she goes to sleep during the best audiobooks/TV programs!
Seriously, the best so far with a complex but measured pace, and like Ice Killer a degree of empathy with the 'villain', a prisoner seeking revenge on sex offenders, also a final twist.
Perhaps at the cusp of becoming formulaic, So, like Fawlty Towers, call time on an excellent series and start a new one?
But I must admit I would miss Barton (and his family!), Sanders and Strange! And Serena!!
Anyway, regardless I will follow Ross Greenwood.

Bedtime listening, sometimes lose the plot!
