Must listen, thought provoking, Sci-Fi love story
I absolutely loved The Code of Us by Liv Evans. This Science fiction love story is a captivating exploration of the depths of love and the consequences of our actions with Jodie Harris and Steve West's performances bringing these characters to life in a way that is both captivating and heart-wrenching.
The story is intense, heart-wrenching, and thought-provoking, with its central theme of the lengths we are willing to go to save the ones we love. The book takes us on a journey through Mia's grief-fuelled decision to save her husband's life, which leads her to face public scrutiny and put her relationships and career on the line.
This story tackle’s themes of love, grief, sacrifice, and the lengths we are willing to go to save those we love. The characters are well-developed, and their emotions and struggles are deeply felt. The science fiction aspect of the story is woven in seamlessly, adding an extra layer of depth to the plot.
The book is expertly written, with Liv Evans creating a rich and believable world full of complex characters that are easy to empathise with. The twists and turns of the plot kept me hooked until the very end, and the happy-ish for now ending left me feeling satisfied, yet eager for more.
Jodie Harris's performance as Mia Drew is simply outstanding, bringing depth and emotion to the character and does a fantastic job of bringing Mia to life, capturing the her strength, vulnerability, and determination with ease. Not forgetting there were some steamy scenes in this one I was not expecting and Jodie had me blushing – her male voice is excellent and I forgot it was a female narrating –oooft!
Steve West's portrayal of Arden Drew is equally impressive, with his perfect Australian accent work. The addition of Steve West's performance of the epilogue was a brilliant choice. Not only does he have a great Australian accent, but his performance captures the weight of the events that have transpired and the emotional journey that Arden has been on. It brings a satisfying closure to the story while still leaving room for the listener to imagine what the future holds for Mia and Arden.
Overall, The Code of Us is a beautifully written and expertly performed love story and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys science fiction, an epic love story for the ages, or just a great story about the lengths we will go to for the people we love.
Whilst we don’t get the fairy tale ending, it feels real and satisfying in a way that left me thinking about the story long after I finished listening.
The combination of Liv Evans' masterful storytelling, Jodie Harris' exceptional performance, and Steve West's haunting epilogue make this a must-listen.
Bravo to Liv Evans, Jodie Harris and Steve West for bringing this amazing story to life in a truly unforgettable way. All the stars!
