About this listen

This is a 150-year detective story with a cast of unrecognized heroes who may, finally, become known for their work on the true causes of heart disease. Exploring the truth about cholesterol—the apparently tried, and convicted, cause of millions of deaths from heart disease—with billions spent each year on lowering cholesterol with diet and drugs.

Is it possible that our villain was simply left holding the gun whilst the true culprits ran and hid? Have they escaped our clutches?

Dr. Kendrick also introduces us to a range of other lesser known characters in this tale of selective reporting, data manipulation, and intrigue. The true story of heart disease is out there, and the evidence has been brought together here—a scientific mystery for our time that is ready to unfold.

Best narrator I've heard. Funny and informative.

Matthew excels in his narration, well done! By far the best performance in an audiobook. Malcolm's writing is succinct and engaging, a standout science writer.

Easy listening, on a heavy topic

This is a thorough and well reasoned argument in support of his model of cardiovascular disease. It also provides supporting evidence and is presented in plain English and an entertaining style. Thanks Dr Kendrick, I loved this book.

Misleading stats analysis

Calculates that obesity is low risk by ignoring the fact that obesity leads to diabetes He does this by calculating risks for obesity impact for the rare cases of people who are obese but don’t develop diabetes as a result. Why don’t doctors bother understanding statistical bias selection effects.
