Surprising and gorgeous
I wasn't expecting to feel so deeply about the characters in this book but I did and it was a brilliant listen. If you have read The Words you will love this.

The ANGST
Fucking Hell, this book grabs your heart and rips it out of your chest. Teddy Hamilton as always does a phenomenal job adding depth and emotion to Memphis. Erin is a wonderful Sky and emphasizes her emotional turmoil over the brothers.

I'm not okay 😭
Miss Jade has done it again. The Words was already my fav, but this just went and destroyed me. I have so many feelings!! 💔 Explains a lot about the characters, and was a great story line. Performance was great of course, love these narrators. I wanna read more of this world! What about Storms story, find him a lady! 😊

⚠️Warning⚠️ INCOMPLETE SERIES ALERT! This story is NOT complete, 2nd book in duet is unfinished (with no release date!)
‼️READ THIS BEFORE STARTING THE CHOICE‼️
I made the mistake of downloading this after listening to The Words (which I loved) without checking if this was a completed story (for these two characters); it isn’t!
It’s more of a prequel to The Words/the the origin story of Skyler and Memphis (and Josh) which ends on a heart crushing cliffhanger whilst they’re still in their teens (before Memphis & Josh even join the band). No resolution to their story or happy ending for the characters in this book.
Not only has the second book in the duet “The Consequence” not been published yet (as of March 2025), the previous release dates have been delayed/missed so much (due to author’s unfortunate personal circumstances) that no new release date will be announced. It’s also unclear if the author is even working on it/even close to finishing writing it.
I havent read many duets before, so I assumed the first book in the duet was S and M’s story, and the second one would be Storm’s or something, but sadly it’s only half of S&M’s.
Don’t get me wrong it’s a good book, and I would have eagerly devoured part 2 of their story if it was out already. But I’m the kind of person that waits until a series has been completed to start, as this is exactly the kind of thing I try to avoid. Having patience is one thing. Not knowing if you’ll ever find out how things end for two characters whose individual stories you’ve invested in, is just not for me.
I always check the reviews before I download an audiobook and only saw lovely things about The Choice, so you’d think it had a satisfying ending, but I just wish someone had given me the heads up it was half of their story and the second half wasn’t finished/published (even in a standard book format), as I wouldn’t have started it.
So here’s the warning I wish I’d had; yes it’s a well written story, but imagine how you’d feel if you’d had to stop reading a really great book halfway through and the second half was not even published. That’s what this feels like. You have been warned!
