About this listen
What sort of betrayal would drive a brother and sister apart? When Grace and her brother Andrew inherit their grandmother's house, they surprise few people by deciding to move in together. But they've always got on well and the London house is large enough to split down the middle. There's just one thing they've not taken into account though: what if one of them wants to bring a lover to the house?
When Andrew's partner, James, moves in, and immediately picks a fight about the treatment of gay men, the balance is altered - with almost fatal consequences.
The Child's Child is both an intriguing examination of betrayal in families, and a taut, thrilling listen.

Odd and unsatisfying
There’s a lot that’s good and intriguing here, but it ultimately feels more like two completely separate, somewhat unfinished and unsatisfying stories, rather than one cohesive work with two strands that relate to each other. It relies heavily on the main character in the modern story doing things and making decisions that seem extremely unlikely, and even stupid, to move the plot forward. This always irritates when it doesn’t feel true. And the historical story involves spending a LOT of time with one of the most vacuous and boring narcissists ever put on paper. You feel like you will never escape this truly awful, tedious, black hole of a character. Which may be what the author was going for, who knows. Still worth a read if you love Barbara Vine’s brand of dissecting sinister British psyches.

Loved the speaker
I will definitely look for more books read by Finty Williams, but not books by the author.
