Publisher's Summary

Our understanding of cancer is slowly undergoing a revolution, allowing for the development of more effective treatments. For the first time ever, the death rate from cancer is showing a steady decline … but the ‘War on Cancer’ has hardly been won.

In The Cancer Code, Dr Jason Fung offers a revolutionary new understanding of this invasive, often fatal disease – what it is, how it manifests and why it is so challenging to treat. In this rousing narrative, Dr Fung identifies the medical community’s many missteps in cancer research – in particular, its focus on genetics, or what he terms the ‘seed’ of cancer, at the expense of examining the ‘soil,’ or the conditions under which cancer flourishes. Dr Fung – whose ground-breaking work in the treatment of obesity and diabetes has won him international acclaim – suggests that the primary disease pathway of cancer is caused by the dysregulation of insulin. In fact, obesity and type 2 diabetes significantly increase an individual’s risk of cancer.

In this accessible read, Dr Fung provides a new paradigm for dealing with cancer, with recommendations for what we can do to create a hostile soil for this dangerous seed. One such strategy is intermittent fasting, which reduces blood glucose, lowering insulin levels. Another, eliminating intake of insulin-stimulating foods, such as sugar and refined carbohydrates.

For hundreds of years, cancer has been portrayed as a foreign invader we’ve been powerless to stop. By reshaping our view of cancer as an internal uprising of our own healthy cells, we can begin to take back control. The seed of cancer may exist in all of us, but the power to change the soil is in our hands.

Thoroughly informative!

The best I can describe my experience with this book, is having learned much about the history of cancer and our modern understanding of it through trial and many errors. As many reviewers have already stated, referencing to numerous studies supports the discussion well. Jason has the fantastic ability of presenting advanced medical analysis in understandable and relatable formats, which makes for greater understanding in the general community.

The holistic approach to discussion in terms of cancer knowledge paradigms shifts, is conversation important not only for the oncology and pharma industries, but ourselves and loved ones who have no doubt been touched by the direct or indirect effects of cancer. Some of the treatments discussed here were not mentioned during treatment stages of my family member going through cancer treatment, so I feel more knowledgeable in that area to conduct personal research further. (I am not a medical prefossional).

Pleasant narration, kudos for tackling the repetitve tongue-tie that is "cellular".

The big C, the struggle for a cure

Dr J Fung describes in relative lay man terms the struggle to find a cure for cancer. I discover that cancer is not a new phenomenon, as a specie we have evolve with it for millions of years. He describes with clarity the history of the different modalities that Western doctors have used and continue to practice to cure this terrible epidemic. The focus is slowly moving from genetic to immune based modalities. There is hope to reduce mortality, lessen its effects or even keep the beast dormant in view of the undesirable sides effects of the cancer therapies and medications. on a side notes, he describes how Big Pharma makes billions on the back of patients and Governments for cures that are copycats of older medicine but charging thousands for similar or lesser positive outcomes. Please support his work, so there is more support for a real return to practices that focus on positive outcomes for the patients and society. God bless

Mind blowing

Thankyou for explaining such a complex subject so clearly. You are an awesome author. Highly recommended. And I am thankful for the audio as I would struggle to read such complex subject matter.

Fantastic insight into cancer

Cancer is a frightening word. We are all terrified when we hear of a cancer diagnosis. Jason Fung helps to demystify cancer in this fabulous book. I was initially afraid to read the book as losing my father to cancer was devastating, but on reading it I feel armed with knowledge & understanding that I did not have before. It doesn’t give you the cure for cancer, but does give you things you can do now to reduce your risk of cancer and gives you an understanding that makes it less frightening. Everyone should read this book. Don’t wait until cancer is in your life, read it now.

A real eye opener

I learned a lot of new things in this book, it was at times very technical, but I like that so it was good.

An entertaining read

Dr Jason Fung has all the elements of an imaginative writer more than capable of illustrating with parallel comparisons to assist non technically minded readers in understanding the complexities of such topic. Great narrative…
