Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'
But on this occasion Smith has it wrong. The insurance company which will have to pay out a very substantial amount of money if Amanda Fitch obtains her certificate of presumed death has engaged Diver and Diver Associates to look into the disappearance of Gerald Fitch, more than five years ago now. As Jason Diver says, he has the very man for the job. All he has to do is to persuade that man to take it on.

Easy listening. love the narrator's interpretation of the characters
Really enjoyed the stories. I've listened to them all. Will miss DC Smith as the main character

Brilliant as usual
A cleverly thought out plot, wonderful characterisation and beautifully narrated. I would happily have listened to 40 hours of this book which was sadly finished too quickly. Absolutely captivating thanks PG!

The characters and story telling
Have listened to all of this series and this is one of my favorites. DC is back with his warmth humor and diligence. Well read as usual and you feel like you are on the Norfolk coastline at times.

Peter Grainger never disappoints
So happy that David Smith character continues with his adventures as I was worried there would be no more books including his character after retiring. Thoroughly love this series and can’t wait for the next book.

Every superlative comment imaginable!
oh how I love Gildart Jackson's narrations of Smith's pedantic and precise musings! His voice perfectly reflects DC's manner.
I really enjoy DC's erudite explanations, 'his' way woth words and intelligent repartee!
Can you squeeze out another one, Peter Grainger? I'm sure thete woll be many others, like me, hanging on till the next one!
