About this listen
"You can't have a party without music," said Dad. "You can't have a fire without smoke," said Whacka. It went from bad to worse after that. A barbecue from hell. Spuds on the roof. A visit from the police. It was war, a fight to the finish between Dad and Whacka. And Chris was right in the middle of it. All because Dad vomited in the cabbage patch. It could only be a Paul Jennings story narrated by Kate Hosking.

Hilarious sound effects, outrageous situations, and plenty of gross-out humor feature in this fun tale from beloved Australian children's author Paul Jennings. A war breaks out between Dad and his neighbor Whacka after Whacka isn't invited to a barbecue, and the duel doesn't stop even after fire-hoses, flying potatoes, and the police get involved. Narrator Kate Hosking has real fun with the voices, from little kids to grumpy middle-aged men, and she delights in delivering a fun but understandable Australian accent. Great for younger kids who love action-packed stories and big messes.
Critic Reviews
"Perfect sound effects, such as blood-curdling screams, a crowing rooster who announces a new day, and even a deliberately phony-sounding dog bark, add to the fun. Best of all is the awesome Australian accent, which [narrator Kate] Hosking carefully keeps understandable for American listeners. There’s nothing more joyful than a Jennings/Hosking audiobook!
