About this listen
They won't forgive. They won't forget.
1950. At the crumbling Idlewild Hall school for unwanted girls, four roommates begin to bond over dark secrets and whispered fears - until one of them mysteriously disappears....
2014. Journalist Fiona Sheridan can't get over the murder of her sister 20 years ago, near the ruins of Idlewild. And when another body is found during renovations of the school, she'll begin to uncover secrets that were meant to remain hidden in the past - and a voice that won't be silenced....
For fans of Lisa Jewell and S. K. Tremayne, The Broken Girls is a chilling story of murder, revenge and a darkness that refuses to stay buried....

Intriguing historical read
Firstly the narrator was fantastic- great speed and provided a nice touch with different accents. The book was a little slow to start but I recommend preserving because I was unable to stop listening from about half way through. The ghosts were a little annoying and sometimes detracted from the story but the characters were strong and the book well written overall. Great book

Great suspense story with a historical background
This is the third time I am trying to submit a review of The Broken Girls, and it disappears every time after I post it - a bit creepy, don't you think? So I will keep it short and sweet as to not offend the ghost of Mary Hand:
With a dual timeline featuring two separate murder mysteries, The Broken Girls is a perfect example on how to incorporate a spooky ghostly element to ratchet up tension without pushing the story too far into the realm of the unbelievable. If you love a good suspense story with a historical background and an atmospheric gothic setting, I urge you to give this a go – even for readers who are not normally fans of the supernatural. For extra goosebumps, read this one alone at night with the wind howling outside and the tap-tapping of spidery branches on the roof – or was it footsteps I heard? I can’t wait to read more from this author!

An unexpected Gem
I started this book not really knowing anything about it. I was looking for something to read and a friend suggested it. It was sold to me as a ghost story, which isn't really something that I would normally go for, but the friend suggesting it had never steered me wrong before so I thought I would give it a go.
I won't give a complete synopsis of the book because there are plenty of them provided. In my opinion, this was more a story about a woman in 2014 who is on a quest to find answers about her sisters murder. Along the way, she discovers that a young girl went missing in the 1950's from the boarding school on whose grounds her sisters body was discovered. The story unfolds by alternating between Fiona's point of view and the story of the girls in the boarding school in the 50's. The alternating chapters are done expertly in this novel and the story flows really well.
I did find the beginning a little slow, but once it grabbed me, I was hooked. There is definitely a ghost element to this story, but I thought it was done so well and with subtlety that it appealed to me. The Broken Girls kept me up at night, reading far longer than I ever intended to. It gave me that ..... Ohhh, just one more chapter .... feeling I really enjoy with some books. I will definitely look out for more titles from Simone St. James
