Publisher's Summary

She becomes aware of the silence at the other end of the line. A prickling sensation crawls up her arms. Her heart speeds up. "Found who?" she asks, slowly, carefully, deliberately.

"They found Daniel."

Six years ago

Megan waits at the school gates for her six-year-old son, Daniel. As the playground empties, panic bubbles inside her. Daniel is nowhere to be found.

According to his teacher, Daniel’s father picked up his son. Except he and Megan are no longer together. After years of being controlled by her cruel husband, Megan finally found the courage to divorce him. Hands trembling, she dials his number, but the line is dead.

Six years later

Megan is feeding her new baby daughter when she gets the call she has dreamt about for years. Daniel has walked into a police station in a remote town just a few miles away.

Megan is overjoyed - her son is finally coming home. She has kept Daniel’s room, with his Cookie Monster poster on the wall and a stack of Legos under the bed, perfect to welcome him back. But when he returns, Daniel is quieter than she remembers....

Desperate to find out what happened to her little boy and to help him heal, Megan tries everything - his favourite chocolate milkshake, a reunion with his best friend, a present for every birthday missed - but still, Daniel is distant.

And as they struggle to connect, Megan begins to suspect that her son is hiding a secret. A secret that could destroy her family....

A heartbreaking, emotional, and poignant drama about a family in turmoil. Fans of Jodi Picoult, Liane Moriarty, and Linda Green - this is for you.

A great thriller/crime fic with a gripping plot and likeable central characters

I think the review I read promised this book would make me cry, and it definitely did. I liked the twists and turns the plot took and the writing style, with glimpses of the past spread through the book slowly revealing what has actually happened to the kidnapped boy.

The narrator reads very well and brings the characters to life, the main character’s awful ex-husband is particularly creepily done (but not over done).

Not to bad

A fabulous story line, and it did keep one riveted, however my patience with Meg as a mother was running low.
The Narrator was good and kept the story flowing BUT why the appalling Australian accent??? made me shiver and groan.....being Australian, I know of very few of us Aussies that speak that way..... that was almost enough for me not to finish the story....

A good story

Enjoyed the storyline , was engaging and looked forward each day to listen to. At times it dragged a bit but was only for short bursts. Michaels voice never matched his description ( well that’s how I felt) was hard to hear such a female voice try to be a tough detective role model.

Drama

Totally enjoyed this book, all the emotions of loss, heartbreak, desperation and a mothers love for her child.

Okay story badly performed

I found the story okay, but it was ruined by the awful narration. Slow, haulting, stuttering speech totally detracted from the story.

OK for a light read

I found this book easy to listen to but very predictable, I had guessed who the characters were half way through the story which was a bit disappointing, I really like to be kept guessing until the end.

What a wonderful story

I really loved this story. So well written, full of emotion, suspense and well crafted characters. Will definitely be back for another Nicole Trope book. Can't go passed a book narrated by Melle Stewart (she's the best).

Very emotive - gripping

This one really got me - as a mother I was so drawn in and at one point thought I was going to
have to abandon the book because it was just so emotive. I’m so glad I stuck with it though. The narration was excellent and I loved the ending. Nicole has a knack for really delivering on the twists.

Excellent story.

Loved this book. I wanted to know so badly the outcome but at the same time didn't want the book to end. Narrators voice is excellent, easy on the ear and changes to suit the characters.
