About this listen

In the Scottish Highlands, a tiny bookshop perches on the edge of a loch . . .

Curl up and escape with Jenny Colgan

Zoe is a single mother, sinking beneath the waves trying to cope by herself in London. Hari, her gorgeous little boy is perfect in every way - except for the fact that he just doesn't speak, at all. When her landlord raises the rent on her flat, Zoe doesn't know where to turn.

Then Hari's aunt suggests Zoe could move to Scotland to help run a bookshop. Going from the lonely city to a small village in the Highlands could be the change Zoe and Hari desperately need.

Faced with an unwelcoming boss, a moody, distant bookseller named Ramsay Urquart, and a band of unruly children, Zoe wonders if she's made the right decision. But Hari has found his very first real friend, and no one could resist the beauty of the loch glinting in the summer sun. If only Ramsay would just be a little more approachable...

Dreams start here . . .

Bookvans, Castles and the Loch Ness Monster

A lovely addition to the Bookshop series. Some familiar characters and some entirely new make up the ensemble in this tale. Not so much about the books this time but a quietly earnest story of broken families and shattered hearts. I found myself reaching for this book at every opportunity.

Gets much better

I didn’t like this book at first, as I persevered I got more engrossed, I really loved it in the end and highly recommend it. Nice to read a story without so much glitz and glam.

Enjoyable

Easy and enjoyable. Took a while to get to where you knew it would go. Liked the characters, although somehow the know it all aspect and tone of the nanny didn't always ring true.

Pretty awful

A story line only little bit more realistic than Barbara Cartland but could definitely be improved with a different narrator. Her accents were good enough but the jerky nature of conversations and particularly horrific portrayal of Ramsay were too distracting.

Very predictable…yawn

I think I’m about halfway through and I know EXACTLY what is going to happen - twee drivel. It’s a mediocre adaptation of Mary Poppins. Let me guess…everyone is going to live happily ever after? I cannot be bothered finishing it - I’m so bored! The narration was good though

Easy listening

Lovely story, easy to listen to and jump into at any time. Slow burning, but a good, light holiday book.
