The dazzling new novel from the best-selling author of Cloud Atlas.

Longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2014

Run away, one drowsy summer's afternoon, with Holly Sykes: wayward teenager, broken-hearted rebel and unwitting pawn in a titanic, hidden conflict.

Over six decades, the consequences of a moment's impulse unfold, drawing an ordinary woman into a world far beyond her imagining. And as life in the near future turns perilous, the pledge she made to a stranger may become the key to her family's survival....

Another wonderful novel from David Mitchell

The epic story arcs of The Bone Clocks are quite breathtaking. Holly Sykes - 1980s Gravesend girl, with a penchant for Talking Heads - also mixes in near immortal circles.

Loved it

If you liked Cloud Atlas you'll enjoy this book. A story of past, present, and (briefly) future. I found the female narrator in the third section slightly annoying at first (she seemed to speak too slowly or something) but I soon stopped noticing. I like to listen to audiobooks on walks or while doing housework & this was perfect.

Absolutely amazing!!

I'm gobsmacked by the depth and breadth of this narrative, the meticulously interwoven strands, the fantastic characterisation and fascinating aspects of magical realism so deftly intermingled which gut-wrenching realism. Absolutely loved it.

My one and only niggle is that a couple of the narrators were absolutely useless when it came to doing accents that were foreign to them, one American/Canadian attempting the British accent of Holly (which sounded absolutely nothing like the Holly of the first or final chapter, an embarrassingly poor Pakistani accent, the unconvincing Russian accents and the beyond dodgy Australian and Noongar accents (yes, they're different). These are minor niggles though and the overall book/audiobook is enthralling and brilliant.

Another brilliant tale from a master storyteller

I am a huge fan of David Mitchell, and The Bone Clocks certainly doesn’t disappoint. Epic, sprawling, extraordinarily creative, at times deeply moving and always entertaining. Anyone who has read Mitchell’s earlier novels will recognise a few characters making a return appearance in this story. Brilliant narration makes the 29 hours fly by!

Intricate, excellent mind bending and epic tale. Characters grab your attention and off we go. Brilliant.

Excellent quirky story I was sad to finish

The Bone Clocks is not your standard book so some may find it challenging, be aware of this. However if you like something a bit different you may enjoy this.

Superbly written and narrated the Bone Clocks gives us a snippets into several characters lives, how they are intertwined and with the added interest of an additional temporal plane.

It is a long book so great value in that respect.

I loved it and was disappointed I didn’t have a sequel to pick up next

Another great book

As in Cloud Atlas, all the characters are interwoven into all the chapters as time moves forward. David's writing is floors above most other novelist. The only part that was a bit disappointing was the second last chapter, I feel it could have been written by a child, perhaps David let his write it. You should listen to it twice, because there will be a ton of stuff that won't register with the first listen. it's actually better the second time round. The last chapter is a chilling insight into possible life in the near future,

Incredibly moving and entertaining

I read the physical book years ago and fell in love with David Mitchell. Revisiting in audio form years later and my heart strings were pulled again. Wodnefully interwoven story across decades and such a brilliantly delivered story.

Small and only frustrating part were some of the narrators were audibly heard swallowing or smelling dry lips together which was really jarring in a few sections. Small detail but once past it.
So moved.

I’m sitting here crying listening to the final chapter and highly recommend

Truly unique

I absolutely enjoyed this one. It was my first David Mitchell book & I will certainly be checking out more of his work. The narrators were fantastic!
