About this listen
You can never escape the past. Especially on the moors....
After the National Crime Agency cracks a major drug gang, junior barrister Julia McGann finds herself defending the violent enforcer Terrence Bonner. This high-profile case is a coup for her, but almost immediately things start to go wrong. Intruders break into her house, and then a young girl turns up at her door with a horrifying story to tell.
Three months later, DCI Craig Gillard and his team struggle with the shocking murder of a much-respected local headmaster, found dead in his own car. The baffling crime fills the newspapers but yields few clues. As Gillard sifts the evidence, a pair of blood-spattered gloves seems important.
Why were they used for both the murder and for the burglary at Julia’s house? What secrets is the barrister hiding...and what happened on the Derbyshire Moors two decades ago that could be the key to these shocking events?
A story of deceit, vengeance and blackmail, best-selling author Nick Louth will leave you reeling in this unpredictable crime thriller.

Not the Best
Well written and great narration but I struggled to accept how two very intelligent women with plenty of choices and a lot to lose would go down this path. Disappointing and not much Craig Gillard

Could not stop listening
I binge listened to this and wished I had not as I want to listen to more.
The story kept me guessing right to the end even though I knew who “dun it”.
Brilliant twists.
The only downside I had was in the narration. Although the main character was fine and the narrator’s voice was great for the story line, I found some of his attempts at female characters were simpering and a little grating.
If you can get past that I would recommend this book and look forward to more, maybe with a female narrator to compliment the female characters??

Best story so far
This is the first Nick Louth audiobook I've listened to, having read all his previous "body" books. This story was very enjoyable because the plot kept me guessing until the end, even though, like any story, one can sometimes envisage different outcomes. I'm quite picky when it comes to narration and have had to return books when the narrator has not been up to scratch but Marston York's narration was excellent.

Too Drawn Out
Implausible story line. It was hard to believe two supposedly intelligent women would behave in this manner. The least likable of the DCI Gillard stories.
