About this listen

A young woman found murderedA scandal in the making

When Mrs Bantry wakes to find a body in her library, there’s only one woman to call: her good friend Jane Marple.

But she hasn’t called her old friend for comfort.

The body in her library has been murdered and Miss Marple is so very good at solving murders.

Her investigations uncover a scandal far darker than either of them could have imagined, and this time she may be out of her depth.

Never underestimate Miss Marple

‘Christie always defied expectations, not only in her legendary twists and reveals, but also in the underestimated detectives she created as her heroes. The villains never see these sleuths coming – and that’s half the fun.’
Leigh Bardugo

‘One of the most ingeniously contrived of all her murder stories.’
Birmingham Post

Not what I expected - better!

I’d watched the Telemovie of this book a number of times and was sure the story would be the same for the book, but was genuinely happy to discover differences, including a different murderer. Recommended book for Agatha Christie fans.

great

One of my favourite Christies so far. Miss Marple was lovely as ever and posts of good twists and turns.

Brilliant narration

Stephanie Cole’s character voices are utterly convincing. Her male character voices are so good that at one point I suddenly thought, ‘Wasn’t the narrator female?’ I like her Miss Marple voice too — distinctive yet unobtrusive. Some actors overplay this role with too much fluffiness or (shudder) too jolly. Cole has nailed it. I will now buy other stories to hear more of her voices.
It goes without saying that the story is good. Christie was always a master of character and of plot.

Yay, I finally guessed an Agatha Christie!

I'm so relieved! I was so certain the whole story, so enjoyable! I much prefer Poirot but that was fun, and my first Miss Marple too!

Enjoyable mystery

With wonderful narration by Stephanie Cole this murder mystery fairly crackles along. Another classic from the pen of the Queen of Crime.

Very pleasant and entertaining to listen.

Just an overall great experience. Absolutely loved listening her voice changing with every character.
