About this listen
Five towers. Five colors. Only one way out.
Cipher wakes up in the Blue Tower with no memories of his former life. He discovers he is not alone. Dozens of boys and girls must compete in a battle called the Scouring against four other towers - Red, Green, Yellow, and Black - each with its own rules and powers.
In his first Scouring, Cipher captures Emma, a girl from Yellow, whose memories from Victorian England move Cipher to uncover his own past. He must learn who he was before he can figure out why he's here...and how to get out.

A strong page-turning start to the series
There are elements to this book that echoes of Ender’s Game’s Battle School, where children are thrown into battle and have to think through tactics to survive and win, but it’s much, much more than that; the high walls of the Scouring remind me - superficially - of The Maze Runner, but the mysteries of the Towers are completely different - but no less challenging - to the former’s darkly sinister machinations. Aimed more at Young Adults, I (slightly more mature Gen Xer) nevertheless found it a thoroughly enjoyable read. I inhaled it in about two long-ish sittings.
