About this listen

'Haunting in every way. A story thick with family secrets, human heartache, and the kind of deep magic only Harkness can conjure. You will be enchanted' LEIGH BARDUGO

'The Black Bird Oracle deftly explores the nexus of memory, history, and parenthood - the magic, pain, and promises mothers pass onto their children. Harkness's lush prose makes a fantastical world real enough to touch' JODI PICOULT

Diana Bishop journeys to the darkest places within herself - and her family history - in the highly anticipated fifth novel of the beloved Number One Sunday Times bestselling All Souls series.

The first shadows fall on a Friday afternoon when a single, dying raven lands on the pavement in front of Diana Bishop, harbinger of an invitation that reads, 'It's time you came home, Diana'.

Diana is a witch and scholar; her husband Matthew Clairmont, a vampire. Their intense love for one another awoke the dark powers within her and dissolved the Covenant between the three species - Witch, Daemon and Vampire - that live alongside humans. Now, the governing Congregation has decided it must test the magical powers of their seven-year-old twins, Pip and Becca. Concerned with their safety, Diana decides to forge a different path for her family's future and travels to Ravenswood, the Proctor family home.

There, Diana begins a new era, becoming her great aunt Gwyneth's pupil in higher magic. It's time to confront her family's past - and her own, inescapable desire for greater power.

Number One bestselling author Deborah Harkness returns to her beloved All Souls world with a triumphant novel that sweeps back to the Salem Panic and illuminates Diana's family history in new and thrilling ways.©2024 Deborah Harkness (P)2024 Penguin Audio

wow

i cant wait for book 6 and 7...what a Legacy- not just these books in life but in the story. dianna bishop is in part, all of us. i can tell the author knows what life is like, Marriage and children. to be an Academic and a wife and mother...and gifted with power must complicate anyones world. i love the play between charactors who love and hate the way only family can. i love reading but having a toddler means listening. thank you for giving me this world again.

Always a pleasure

I always knew it was going to be a great read, and it was. What I loved so much was the pace. It wasn't rushed, it took me on a long gentle and wonderful journey through the world of Diana, Matthew and their family once again. I loved it. All of it. And will await the next one and enjoy every moment of that as well. May this series extend for a very long time into the future.

Continued great story telling

Really enjoyable continuation of the world of Diana Bishop and her family. The story wasn’t as long or complex as the previous All Souls trilogy but still highly entertaining. Good blend of familiar characters and exploring new aspects of this world. It feels like the first book in a series so hopefully there will be more books to follow!
Narration is excellent as usual 👏🏻

Magically decadent

Deborah Harkness is a master storyteller who wraps the reader in layers of beautifully written imagery, mystery and history. This book is just as good, if not better than the All Souls Trilogy and I cannot wait for the next one.

The Blackbird Oracle

What an amazing book. Once again, Jennifer Eketta has narrated Deborah Harkness's amazing story about Diana and Matthew beautifully. I love her renditions and the emphasis she manages to convey.

The book, once again gives an amazing insight to the lives of Diana and Matthew, this time concentrating on Diana's development as a powerful witch. this book evokes rich visual and emotional feelings, and continues the story of Diana and Matthew and their brightborn children in an engaging and brilliant way. The ending of this book has left me wanting more and eager to learn how this story will evolve.

Many thanks to Deborah Harkness for her brilliance in storytelling and I look forward with anticipation to the next installment.
