The factory where she works begins to lay off people and it isn't long before she has fallen into the hands of the violent local money-lender. That is until an unexpected opportunity comes her way - a job cleaning a most unusual bookshop, where anyone, from factory workers to dockers, can learn to read and then buy books cheaply. A new world opens up, but with it come new dangers, too.

Lovely story
Great book and the narrator is brilliant. I love great endings, and the lead up to this one is very twisty.

lovely little story
I enjoyed this book. I have been reading action packed books of late and this has been a great change in pace and genre. looking for something else similar now as I enjoyed this book.

A lovely tale
I loved going back in time and hearing about Kate and her trials and tribulations. The descriptive and eventful story was brought alive by the narrator's soothing voice!

A breath of fresh air
A beautifully historical romance book that transpires during the 1920’s, in post WW1 London, where life was rough, cutthroat, and it’s survival of the fittest - especially if you were one of the working class. Our FMC, Kate is a remarkable lass who overcame the adversities and challenges that life threw at her and survived - and even prospered. This book is well researched, beautifully written and Anne Dover did an excellent job with her authentic narration

Enjoyable story
This is a well narrated story that brings the characters to life as you read. The story immerses you in their lives and you want the heroine of the story to triumph even if she frustrates you occasionally!

Wonderful story and the reader did very well.
Story line was engrossing and the Audio was well read with emphasis in the right places. I will look forward to ordering more books by this duo.

Enjoyable read
