About this listen
Mary Creighton was just 15 when she found herself pregnant out of wedlock in 1960s Ireland. She dreamed of a happy life with her child, but that was shattered when she was sent away to Castlepollard - a home for mothers and their unborn babies.
Stripped of their clothes and forced into gruelling work whilst pregnant, those who survived childbirth were made to force-feed their children for adoption into wealthy families. Babies were ripped out of their mothers' hands, but Mary refused to let that happen to her. She managed to escape only to later lose her beautiful daughter to social services and the meddling nuns...who always managed to catch up with her.
After spending time in an infamous Magdalene Laundry and having another two children snatched away, Mary sought to find her lost children and demand answers for the atrocities committed supposedly in God's name.

Disgraceful conduct “Catholic Church”
The irony is not lost on me, church goers, Priests, Nuns and all the other religions claim to be there to spread gods word and help the many as a reflection of Christ and his forgiveness. The Catholic Church has harmed so many men, women, children and babies!. I don’t imagine that they are held accountable for the atrocities they have committed. If they murder, they must be held accountable. Throwing money is nowhere near what they deserve.
The sadness of losing a child in this way must be heartbreaking.

Horrifically sad. I cried and was angry
Such a sad story, very well written story. highly recommended, makes me so angry that women and girls were treated like this from probably before the 1920 right up until 1996.

A very sad story of unbelievable proportions.
I have read several similar books on the subject of Catholic Nuns profiteering on unwed mothers but selling their babies. This one told the story of one courageous woman who was knocked down physically & emotionally but always got up. A disturbing read

How horrible it was for women/young girls having babies out of wedlock
Truly shattering that women and young girls where treated like low lives and their unfortunate circumstance made them lose thier babies and many their own existence
