About this listen

Bloomsbury presents The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

‘One of the best fantasy book series of the past decade’ TIME

The twist of a knife. The birth of a legend.

Step into the world of the #1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas with this collection of prequel novellas.

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful Assassin’s Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, she yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. But when Arobynn dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, Celaena finds herself acting independently of his wishes and questioning her own allegiance.

If she hopes to escape Arobynn’s clutches, Celaena will have to put her faith in her wits and her blade ... knowing that if she fails, she’ll lose not just a chance at freedom but her life.

A prequel to the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass, this collection of five novellas explores the history of this cunning assassin and her enthralling — and deadly — world.

Included in this volume:
The Assassin and the Pirate Lord
The Assassin and the Healer
The Assassin and the Desert

Captivating!

I absolutely adored listening to this series! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Celaena started off as this vein character but I ended up weeping for her by the end of the last book. My heart shattered in to a million pieces! The narrator was AMAZING at Celaena, Sam's & Ancel's characters. I'm glad I was told to read this book first as it has context to the characters Celaena bumps in to, in the future....if she has one. Please let Celaena have a future, Sarah!!😭🤧

I read it after Heir of Fire

It was good! I know her more now. But it was hard to let go of the storyline and get invested at first. But also makes sense to read it before continuing.

Brilliant way to tie in the history

Action packed and just excellent, brilliant way of introducing the history of the characters going into a very exciting rest of the series

Wonderful short stories

Having read the rest of the series I thought I should probably go back and give this one a listen too. It was so wonderful to hear each short story compiled together, giving further insight into the events of the rest of the series. I did however struggle with the change in voice for some of the characters, some of them definitely being given accents that are vastly different later on in the series. Overall it was a great listen despite not being my absolute favourite book in the series, I’m glad to have had another chance to be immersed into the Throne of Glass world.

Omitted Sentences.

I read along with the physical copy a few times and noticed that some sentences are omitted. nothing story changing but there really is no reason for them to be omitted.
