About this listen

In this compelling historical novel by former Associated Press reporter and entertainment writer and book author Fred Yager, Cambodia is still a war-ravaged country, even though the Vietnam War has ended. Esther, a recent college graduate and an American volunteer, is trying to make the lives of Cambodian refugees better. But with more recent news that Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge's plan to create a new revolutionary nation may actually be turning into mass genocide, she decides she must find a way to speak up about these killings to the refugee commissioner. With the reluctant help of Tipton, an American Vietnam War deserter who drives the river boat, the Asian Queen, Esther plans to travel into Cambodia to find evidence with the hope of bringing attention to what is really going on so there could be an end to these atrocities. But will she be able to make it out alive?
