excellent
a fascinating and excellently executed take on the mecha genre, set in a world of infinite intriguing detail and populated by characters that are intensely human, even when they’re not human at all. I’ll be following the authour’s future work for sure.

A feverish descent into self
Candon has a way. If you’ve read Ronin (which you should) you’ll know the world building and vibes of a location come like second nature to them. What Archive Undying does then, instead, is allow for a searching grasp toward the ethereal and the surreal, deftly combining compelling sci-fi with earth shattering insight into queer male intimacy, self worth, and self actualisation. This is not an easy book, its prose are far less lucid than I was expecting, but push through and discover a gorgeous, tragic, and deeply worthy new world.

Not the mecha book I anticipated
I didn't finish. I was sold on the comparison to Evangelion and Tamsyn Muir's recommendation. The former is misplaced and the later is down to taste. I'd heard it had gratuitous sex - I was ok with this. However - the scenes and descriptions were remarkably unattractive. I struggled to engage with the characters and generally didn't care to read the outcome.
