About this listen

Greed, terrorism, and simple bad luck conspire to bring mankind to its knees as a viral infection spreads out of control, reducing those infected to undead horrors that feed upon the rest.

It's a time of misery and death for most, however there are some who are lucky, some who are ruthless, and some who are just too damned tough to go down without a fight. This is their story.

Great, until it isn't

This series starts off strong. Great story telling, interesting characters and lots of white knuckle moments.
My only real complaint with it though is the introduction of the little girl "Jilly-Bean".
Her character is cute, and leads to some amusing moments but she's also wildly unbelievable after a while.
She has a toy giraffe called Ipes, and he embodies all the wisdom of her father rising up from her subconscious at appropriate times.
The trouble is, Jilly-Bean and Ipes (and the magic marbles) are just a little too capable for the story to remain believable and engaging.
I don't know, I just think the addition of this almost psychic girl with an encyclopedic knowledge of just about everything really hurts the story, and there are a LOT of stories out there.

really enjoyable

somewhat slow in parts, but with enough twists and turns to hold the reader's attention.

Great but a couple issues.

Loved the book and story, just noticed there were a few times where there is a cut and an old chapter repeats or a break in story as well as a missing chunk which was annoying.

repetetive storyline

the characters do so much and build so much in the first book, and then the writer decides to change the whole premise. suddenly they are one big happy family... it gets a bit nauseous. the first book is the only one worth listening to.
