About this listen

A powerful and emotional listen. The Anglesey Murders series is the audiobook thriller of 2021.

DI Alan Williams is called to the recovery of two bodies from the sea at Trearddur Bay, during a storm. The lifeboat crew suspect they're fishermen, washed away by a wave, but they’re wrong. Alan and his detective sergeant, Kim Davies, realise the men were beaten and tied together before they entered the water. Two miles along the headland at Porth Dafarch, a third victim is found but there are no obvious links. As the number of victims increases, a major investigation team battles to unravel a deadly puzzle that appears to have links to a series of historic murders from the '90s. Is there a copycat on the loose, or are the murders connected to the local underworld, which controls the supply of narcotics across North Wales and the North West?

A fantastic crime novel with credible story lines entangling local small town characters with the underworld of drug dealers and multiple police agencies. Probably could have stood alone without sub plot of the father/son murderers which could be a psychological horror story all on it’s own. Narration was excellent with just enough of the Welsh accent for authenticity but not make it difficult to understand.

Fantastic.

These books seem to have gone unnoticed or unreviewed in Aus but i feel they deserve some profile.

i am always on the look out for really good procedurals that are well plotted with a DI that gets on the with the job, doesn't get sacked and doesn't have a mean boss. Shouldn't be too cliched, formulaic or sexist and must have a decent reader without a ridiculous posh accent. This one nails all criteria!

DI is an ordinary unflashy guy whose buys trifles for one on sale (as opposed to just glugging scotch) and gets on with his boss. There are multiple plot lines that unfold nicely. A substantial narrative unlike some of the more childish offerings in the crime genre. WELL DONE.

Great. This has all the elements!

A twisty turny story which, along with quite a few characters made it a little difficult to follow at times, but probably that's just me. I thought it was a pretty good listen and, as this is the first in the series, I appreciate getting this for free from the Audible plus catalogue. Great idea, I've listened to a few first in series this way and have gone on to purchase subsequent audiobooks and will certainly be purchasing the next in this series.
Narration by Andy Cresswell is excellent. To my "lived in Wales for a few years" ear I think he nailed that accent! I just listened to another Wales based audiobook where the accent drifted from vaguely Welsh to vaguely Scottish!

good opening!

The story was farfetched & contrived. Too many characters to remember, together with clunky dialogue.

Strong narration
