About this listen

Cursed, mated, and in for the fight of their lives....

Warlock Nate Hawthorne just wants a cup of coffee. Is that too much to ask? Apparently. Because instead of precious caffeine, all he gets is cursed by a pack of werewolves who want to use him for his magic. Now the only way to fix the damage is a mate bond to a grumpy and oh-so-sexy alpha in the rival pack, who happens to hate him. This is so not how he wanted to start his day.

Ian Armitage never intended to take Nate as his mate. The Hawthorne family can't be trusted. Ian knows that better than anyone. The fact that he's lusted after the way-too-gorgeous man for years? Totally irrelevant. Ian's just doing what is necessary to protect his pack. This whole mating arrangement has nothing to do with love and never will. That's his story and he's sticking to it.

Nate and Ian will have to work together if they have any hope of staving off the pack's enemies and averting disaster. That's assuming they can stop arguing (and keep their hands off each other) long enough to save the day....

Contains mature themes.

Great Story. Great Narrator.

I love the Mismatched Mates series by Eliot Grayson. I first listened to this audiobook when it came out, reviewed it on my blog, but neglected to review on Audible.
Chris Chambers is the perfect narrator for the eponymous alpha’s warlock, Nate Hawthorne, who is the sole narrator of the book. Also Armitage Pack enforcer, Ian Armitage. He gives them sarcastic edges, boy are they sarcastic, and softer moments. Yeah, this pair start the snarky journey the first two books dole out in spades, and Chamber’s sexy voice does the holy hell! sexy times so well, the humour too. So worth starting your gay romance, paranormal journey with book #1, The Alpha’s Warlock and just keep on going because this series is awesome.

Fluff and sex and gore.

Okay I loved this. It was a good balance of adorable romance and paranormal action. (Though using 'gore' as a descriptor for this is probably misplaced, their just seemed to be more than I was expecting with all the fluff) It's a good reprieve from dark and heavy romance without being cringe worthy fluff.
The MC was more superficial than I usually like but he knew it, he owned it, he was loved because of it, and he was able to self reflect and admit when he was wrong... all together that worked so well.
I don't know if this is a spin off from another series but I did feel like I was missing the back story or something with some of the supporting characters. I know the next books in the series about other characters but it shouldn't feel like something is missing in their story in book 1.
Loved the narrator. I've listened to a few books by him and have never been disappointed.

Loads of fun: enemies-to-lovers romance!

Nate Hawthorne isn’t the most powerful warlock on the block, having been kept untrained and used as a spare battery by his evil, thankfully now-dead, warlock father. Unfortunately, someone else has decided to tap Nate’s powers and their ineptitude sees Nate slowly dying unless he can mate with Ian Armitage, the crankiest alpha werewolf around - a guy who’s always hated Nate. Light-hearted with a few creepy, squeamish bits thrown in, I’m not sure this enemies-to-lovers / supernatural romance made a whole lot of sense but I didn’t care, it was fun and thoroughly entertaining! You know the grumpy / sunshine trope? Well, this was grumpy and grumpier with Nate and Ian both resenting the need to bond and not trusting each other an inch. Told from Nate’s POV, US voice artist Chris Chambers did a great job of channelling the the snark and humour - I always enjoy his voice and performances but he outdid himself here (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue). Looking forward to the rest of the series!
