About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
A must-have guide to optimizing your life for wealth and success, from bestselling author, NYU professor and Pivot podcast co-host Scott Galloway
Today's workers have more opportunities and mobility than any previous generation. They also face unprecedented challenges, including inflation, labour and housing shortages, and climate volatility.
Even the notion of 'retirement' is undergoing a profound rethink, as our lifespans extend and our relationship with work evolves. In this environment, the tried-and-true financial advice our parents followed no longer applies. It's time for a new playbook.
In The Algebra of Wealth, Galloway lays bare the rules of financial success in today's economy. In characteristic unvarnished, no-BS style, he explains you what you need to know in order to improve your chances of achieving economic security no matter what. You'll learn:
- How to find and follow your talent, not your passion, when making career decisions
- How to ride and optimize big economic waves (hard truth: market dynamics always trump individual achievement)
- What small steps you can take that pay big returns later, including diversification and tax planning
- How stoicism can help you minimize spending and develop better financial habits
Bursting with practical, game-changing advice from one of the world's most popular business school professors, The Algebra of Wealth is the practical guidebook you need to win today's wealth game.

Very well written
Very informative, but at the same time doesn’t get too boring. Great ideas and it’s easy to understand.

Sound financial and life advice
Why you should read this book is that it contains a rare commodity in today’s society- it’s called WISDOM.
Scott Galloway is qualified to speak on this subject, he grew up poor and ended up wealthy. More importantly Scott’s lessons should be shared as he tried many different avenues for financial success and had many setbacks. These setbacks help Scott craft an important narrative, especially for people early to mid career. I am a little younger than Scott and wish my kids would read this book!
This book nicely balances personal, professional and long term financial security.
I can personally attest to the long term view on financial security and find myself yelling “yes” as Scott dishes out good solid advice.
I have done a lot better financially by understanding, inflation and taxes- so it’s great that Scott tackles such issues!!
I’m a Scott and Kara fan - so congratulations to the “Big Dog” on your latest book!!

Some great life lessons from someone who has been there and done that
I love the Prof and most of his stuff and there was plenty to be admired in this book.
The first half in particular, where it discusses how you look at your career and earning potential, I thought was fascinating. The only problem? I don’t have a Time Machine.
However, I did feel like the back half got both a bit dry and a bit US specific. For me personally I think there was another way to explain concepts such as progressive and regressive taxes outside of the specific US tax system.
It could have even explained concepts and then had an appendix for US (and other) specific tax advice. For example, in the UK, this bit is almost entirely irrelevant in terms of specifics due to PAYG tax but the concepts could still be interesting.
It’s still a really good and interesting read though.

Simple, easy to understand and follow
This book is good for young people who just started work, especially those who are not trained in finance. Follow what Scott says and life will be less and less constrained by (the insufficiency of) money.
I particular like the lost glove story of his son. Relationship should be at the centre of everyone’s life. Money is creating noises in this capitalist world and the best way is to win the game and turn it back into background noises only.

Straight forward and too the point
I listened to his book because of how straight forward he was on the Modern Wisdom podcast. Big fan of his candour and to the point advice, without all the fluff.
Definitely in my top 'learn about money' book recommendations now.

Practical advice for all levels and stages of life
I've watched Scott's interviews online and listened to his thoughts. This book goes deeper into these concepts and helps me take action on theory that I know is right but lack the conviction to make.

Best part is the first 10 minutes
The rest of the book is less than basic information yet ‘written for people earning 100k/yr at 21’. Don’t waste your time or money unless you want to have topics like the s&p500 explained to you like you’re dumb
