About this listen

Experience the final chapter of Ahren's epic, PLATIN-awarded adventure.

Ahren's enormous undertaking to unite the thirteen Paladins has, following years of dangerous journeying, come to a successful conclusion. Now there is only one task left for him to complete. He must lead the Champions of the gods, his other friends, and the free peoples of Jorath in an assault on the Obsidian Fortress. Yet the Adversary is intent on foiling his archenemies' plan before they reach his hordes lurking behind the compound walls. The Dark god's scheme is to spring the trap that was set centuries earlier in preparation for just such an event . . .

An epic series

Having completed this final installment of the 13 book series, my opinions cover the entire adventure.
It's been 18 or so hours since finishing the saga and I'm suffering withdrawals. I'm going to do it all again. I simply must. What if I missed something? I might have, after 200 plus hours of listening it's a distinct probability.
I was hooked by the first book where we're introduced to Ahren, a young loner who's picked on by many in his village as the son of the local drunk and whose future prospects look bleak. Enter Faulk, who takes him under his wing as an apprentice Forest Guardian, protector of all from the evil Dark Ones, creatures altered by the Dark Lord known as The Adversary, to do his evil bidding. Ahren soon receives his Gods Blessing from "The Three" revealing him to Faulk as being the new creation of the 13th Paladin, whose arrival has been anticipated for 800 years since the last battle against The Adversary, which resulted in a stalemate, as the 13th Paladin was slaughtered in the Night Of Blood.
So begins the quest to travel all of Jorath to gather all the other Paladins together for another mighty battle against the now slowly awakening Dark Lord.
We travel through deserts, ice realms, jungles, mountains and across oceans in pursuit of their goal, collecting a diverse array of characters along the way, while constantly battling frightening creations and enduring unimaginable hardships.
Torsten Weitze has created a Tolkien style world of magic, sorcerers, fantasy and intrigue which will have the reader yearning for more. The many peoples we encounter from elves and dwarves to giants, all with their characteristic diversities woven skillfully into the narrative in such a way as to build a world in which the reader can believe.
12 of the 13 books are artfully narrated by Gildart Jackson, whose performance I cannot rate highly enough. If you've heard him, you'll know what I mean. I believe that no other narrator could have done this series such justice.
Think, Richard Burton in Jeff Wayne's musical version of War Of The Worlds. Perfection.
This is for lovers of fantasy worlds where darkness vs light, good vs evil are the fundamentals of every realm's existence.
You will laugh out loud and weep. You will find yourself fighting the urge to fast forward to a conclusion every time the tension grows and the odds against our heroes mount.
I have read many such tales, none as good as this.

The short twist at the end saw me in tears.. this series cries out to be a set of 13 moves or TV series. full marks to all involved in the audio book.

Excellent Series

I really enjoyed this series, burnt through the entire 13 books in a couple of months. Warning: May delay productivity in other life domains.

Awesome story.

One of the best Saga's I've heard in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Only bad things was a change of narrator for one book, it changed every character, even gave one a Scottish accent he didn't have before.

what a story!

I have immersed myself so deeply in this story from the first of the last. What a unique adventure.
It took a little to get used to the performers voice, but it suited it perfectly.

Done & Dusted

It was a roller coaster, dragged a bit here and there, but was worth it. Did shed a tear. Bit sad it’s over. Enjoyed the series, will be in my top ten favourites in this genre.

Be the 13th

A fitting end to an epic saga. I’m happy to have reached the end but I’m sad there is no more.
