About this listen
Never ask a question unless you’re sure you want the truth.
I’ve been listening to my father sing for my whole life. I carry him in my pocket on my MP3 player. It’s just that we’ve never met face to face.
My mother would never tell me how I came to be, or why my rock star father and I have never met. I thought it was her only secret. I was wrong.
When she dies, he finally appears. Suddenly I have a first-class ticket into my father’s exclusive world. A world I don’t want any part of - not at this cost.
Only three things keep me going: my a cappella singing group, a swoony blue-eyed boy named Jake, and the burning questions in my soul. There’s a secret shame that comes from being an unwanted child. It drags me down, and puts distance between me and the boy I love.
My father is the only one alive who knows my history. I need the truth, even if it scares me.

No accidental Y/A purchase - l love all Bowen’s books!
I love all Sarina Bowen’s books and this was the only one I hadn’t read. Wasn’t sure if Y/A would be annoying for a middle aged Mum (like sappy John Green tearjerkers) and have only listened to a few audible books but I really enjoyed it. Great storytelling about relationships (family, friends and romantic) and dialogue sounds natural read aloud. Kate Rudd’s narration was so well done; easy to tell characters apart and none sound weird and irritating (as male characters can when read by female, and vice versa).
No spoilers from me but I do feel sad about friendship that went south.

Accidentally Perfect!
When a story connects with you, it's because the author understands the complexities of human emotion, struggles, doubts, joys and pain. And when they mix it with humour and knowledge in away that reminds you of the creativity of language, (and that has to include music, language for the soul) as well as a story that keeps you guessing and allows you to wonder and predict, you have the perfect story. For me, this had all the elements I enjoy and appreciate and confirms why Sarina Bowen is one of my favourite authors. It can't be easy to be the voice of a 17 year old girl, a musician in his 40's, or a doctor in his 60's, These were just a few of the roles Kate Rudd convincingly performed.
The note of authenticity that echoes through this story is the element that takes this book to the next level.

Story didn’t grab me and I’d rather use a credit on one that does. Could be good, just not for me. Characters are a bit young for what I’d like to listen to
