About this listen

Here are two classics of moral philosophy from one of the most revered Christian voices of our time.

In The Abolition of Man, C. S. Lewis reflects on society and nature and the challenges of how best to educate our children. He describes what public education should be and how far from this standard modern education has fallen. Lewis eloquently argues that, as a society, we need to underpin reading and writing lessons with moral education.

In The Great Divorce, Lewis presents his vision of the afterworld. A fictional narrator boards a bus on a drizzly English afternoon and embarks on an incredible voyage through Heaven and Hell, where he meets a host of supernatural beings and comes to some significant realizations about the nature of good and evil.

Critic Reviews

"These two short works by Lewis are a fine introduction to his eloquent writing, as well as his thought....Robert Whitfield's disciplined and well-modulated voice has an appealingly confident quality." (AudioFile)

Bar none

One of the greatest illustrated writer I have read. This man had a way of putting pen to paper that I haven't read from anyone else granted my library has a few writers. The abolition of Man was possibly one of the best creative writings I have read.

Remarkable clarity that predicts our now

Shows the results of holding too lightly to values painfully worked out by others who came before
accurately predicts the failure of logic in our generation

Awesome content. I didn't quite like the narration

Awesome content. I didn't quite like the narration. Not enough pauses between major thoughts and some of the words not distinct enough and he didn't seem to quite grasp C. S. Lewis' passion and emphases.

Important reads exquisitely read

I have to say this was one of the best voice performances I have experienced on audible in terms or clarity and tone. The reader seems properly in tune with the mood and meaning of the content in a way that is exceedingly rare.
I am greatful for Lewis's writing here with its striking timeless relevance

Reason and nature

A compassionate and imaginative world where scape goating is no longer required in heaven and leads to suburbs of hell.

A timely book for today’s Man and Woman

Hard to believe that a book written so long ago speaks to the problems of today’s society as if written while reading about the destruction of today’s centres of learning which truly are intent on indoctrination rather than education and the destruction of traditional societal values or Tao as Mr Lewis refers.

I Loved this book

The first time I read this book I gleaned some great stuff from it. But I've found it's one of those books that just keep giving as its content is deep and dense with a writing style that is easy to access. wonderful book.
