About this listen

Gangland boss Zander Finn is so sickened by the brutal murder of his son in a Paisley pub, he decides to change his life. Following the advice of his priest and mentor, he moves clandestinely to London and becomes an ambulance driver. But when his old second-in-command, Malky Maloney, tracks him down on a London street, Finn knows he must return. Both his real family and his crime family face an existential threat from Albanian mobsters determined to take control of the Scottish underworld.

Under the watchful eye of his charismatic mother, he must try to look after his lovelorn younger daughter and her older sister, who is pregnant to his old enemy Joe Mannion’s son. His estranged wife, who has more than just a business relationship with Mannion, and his remaining son, crippled while serving in Afghanistan, also require his attention. But most of all, he must take back what is his.

"Meyrick’s breaking the mould with the latest offering straight out of the underworld of Paisley and the gritty streets of London." (Sunday Post)

"A winning combination of fisticuffs and philosophy." (Mark Sanderson, Times and Sunday Times Crime Club)

Good story---but.

Found this a reasonable story and enjoy Denzils writing. I just found the language a little off putting. Narration was ok. So just a little disappointing

Top story, well written and credible narration. I really enjoyed it!! Will be looking for further books by this author, and, hopefully by this narrator.

Performance exceptional. Great story.

The plot became predictable and a bit ordinary towards the end. however over all an exceptionally well written book with complex well developed characters that , for the most part. interacted harmoniously and believably.
The plot became sadly rediculous at end, but that did not detract from an otherwise good story.
exceptionally well read.
a great listen!

Brilliant, even without DCI Daley!

Being such a fan of Jim and Brian, I was a bit doubtful at first but was soon enjoying this tale of family-based gang warfare (not normally my thing). Main character Sander Finn reminded me of Rankin's Big Ger, a rogue, a violent criminal but somehow a likeable one that we could almost identify with!
