About this listen

Declan

I'm destined to become the next CEO of my family's media empire. The only problem? My grandfather's inheritance clause. Fulfilling his dying wish of getting married and having an heir seemed impossible until my assistant volunteers for the job.

Our marriage was supposed to be the perfect solution to my biggest problem. But the more we act in love for the public, the more unsure I feel about our contract. Caring about Iris was never part of the deal. Especially not when breaking her heart is inevitable.

Iris

My plan to marry Declan was simple in theory. Move in together. Throw a wedding. Have a baby. We set rules to prevent any kind of issues. Ones that were never meant to be broken, no matter how much Declan tempts me. But what happens when our fake relationship bleeds into our real one?

Falling in love was never an option. At least not for me.

Contains mature themes.

Great story, Narrative was a put off.

The story was great, the Female narrator was off putting. She did an okay Female character but when she tried to do anyone else, it was.. Off. Especially when she was doing Declan. She made Declan sound like an old man who has smoked his whole life. The book was worth the pain of sitting through it though.

Iris’ voice is weird.

Good story but my God, Iris’ voice is so off putting. It sounded like she’s doing a kid’s story time and the way she did Declan’s voice is so…weird?

The hardest audiobook to listen to…

Loved the story but I tandem read and listen depending on what I’m up to and I really really struggled to listen to this book. The female narrator sounded way too old and it put me off all of the characters. Ended up just reading it on the kindle app to get through it. Story was fine though!

The acknowledgement of the discrimination for dyslexics in the workplace.

I'm sorry to say the breathy reading of the story which unlike the 1st and last books was romantic but a bit sing songy. Maybe that was accentuated by the breathy reading.

Frustrated with Declan

Overall I enjoy Lauren’s storyline but got frustrated with Declan’s attitude and the way he treats people during the course of the book. Wraps up well but dragged on a little too get there.

Great story, poor narrator

Great story line but the narration from Morae unfortunately ruined the story. Her voice felt more forced and just didn’t match the character. Looked forward to Declan’s chapters, Jason did an awesome job and matched well. Don’t think Morae is a bad narrator, just don’t feel like this one was well matched. I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more with a different female voice over for Iris.

I just couldn’t listen to the female narrator anymore

The book has lots of promise and I might go back and read it but I just can’t listen to the female narrator anymore and I’m only 20% in. If you’re not going to do duel narration then make sure that the narrators can do the opposite gender’s narration. The female doing male voice was awful and grating, so deep and gravely. A pity because Jason Clarke is fantastic.

Gotta love the Kane Brothers

3.5 stars Based on the eldest of the Kane brothers, grumpy Declan needs to find a wife, and his perfect, bubbly Assistant, Iris, fits the bill. What starts as a contract, quickly becomes too real.
It's a similar story to Book 1, The Fine Print, with a fake marriage thrown in. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one but that could also be because I listened to it on audio and Icouldn't stand the narrator of Iris. She had an upturn lilt to her voice that I found irritating. It made her sound like she was looking down at everyone, so I couldn't gel with the character.

There were a few scenes that gave me a giggle and I did love that she could pull him in line (When you're that good at your job, you can get away with a bit more.) Overall, it was enjoyable and I'm still keen to finish the series.

Great story but Iris narration was just so frustrating

Thoroughly enjoyed the story, but the narration Morae was so trusting, her Declan was so off. Loved Jason’s narration, had me waiting for the Declan chapters.
