About this listen

Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are not best friends.

Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friendly. Winnie considers them more like casual, distant acquaintances who find each other barely tolerable, especially when he's being condescending (which is all the time).

The truth is, they have nothing in common. She’s a public school science teacher with stars in her eyes, and he’s a pretentious, joyless double PhD turned world-famous bestselling fiction author. She loves sharing her passion for promulgating women in STEM careers and building community via social media, and he eschews all socialization, virtual or otherwise. She’s looking for a side hustle to help pay down a mountain of student debt, and his financial portfolio is the stuff of fiduciary wet dreams. So why are they faking a #bestfriend relationship for millions of online spectators?

When a simple case of tit-for-tat trends between nonfriends leads to a wholly unexpected kind of pretend, nothing is simple. Sometimes, it takes a public audience to reveal the truth of private feelings, and rarely—very rarely—you should believe what you see online.

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend is a full-length, complete standalone, adult contemporary romantic comedy.

Just ok

First I want to say I love Penny Reid, she's one of my fav authors. This book was slow to start but did pick up after several chapters. The story line was good but didn't like the ending, seemed to stop suddenly in my opinion. The lady narrator sounded like she was reading a book and not playing a character to me also. It was quite funny in parts which was good, found myself laughing out loud a couple of times.

Slow and boring burn

This just felt like it went on and on and nothing happened. You can barely call it a burn because nothing happened until the Epilogue really. I got over the painful inner monologue of the characters pretty quickly - yeah, I get it… It had its sweet moments and I get that the characters grow…but I just wanted it to be over.

#winnieandbyron4eva

I love all of Penny Reid’s characters but I think Winnie and Byron are my favourites so far. The character development of both is so well done and the voice actors brought them both to life so vividly in my mind. I love every minute. 😍

Good but not great

Love Penny Reid but this didn’t really do it for me. Still enjoyable but didn’t have the usual charm of her other books.

Loved it!I 😍 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

At the beginning of this book I became concerned that I may have chosen a book with not much depth!
But Penny never disappoints! I learnt about how social media works, the need to set boundaries & that its OK to ask for help. I learned about sensory overload PLUS there is a red HOT 🥵 🔥 love story with adorable characters!
The characters came to life with the excellent narration of Cielo & Patrick.
It is well worth the credit!
ENJOY!♡♡♡♡♡

slow burn

I love Penny Reid, my favorite author. This is my least favorite book I'm afraid. incredibly slow burn, just went round in circles for 13 hours and the ending was sudden and unexpected, nothing really happened. it sheds light on some mental health issues and disorders but it felt like that's all the book was about, the one aspect of the characters lives.

Too long

I have read a lot of Penny Reid books. Have loved all of them.
This one however was too long, the self analysis went on and on.
The story line was good, I learnt a few things. The narration was good. But I found myself fast forwarding and getting bored at times.

2.5 - not her usual quality, needed to be shorter

Mostly love Penny's novels, though a couple of recent ones fell flat for me, this included. really dragged on, could have been told with half the word count, and even then, still wouldn't be as good as other books. didn't feel invested in characters, though they were sweet and I did want their happy ending. it was just that the detail was wasted on dragging things out, rather than adding richness to story and quirkiness that I have enjoyed. used fast forward a lot.
