I årene 1988 og 1989 fandt nogle af de mest grusomme mord i Japans historie sted. Den unge mand Tsutomu Miyazaki kipnappede i perioden 4 piger, der blot var mellem 4 og 7 år gamle. Han lemlæstede og dræbte dem på brutal vis. Bagefter forgreb han sig seksuelt på ligene, og han gik så langt, at han spiste en af sine ofres hånd. Det gjorde ham til den mest forhadte skikkelse i Japan og i pressen fik han tilnavne såsom rottemanden, Dracula og den lille pigemorder.
