‘What an amazing piece of work this is. Ground-breaking, thought-provoking and highly accessible. Everyone should read it. The dark, scary, exciting song of our age. 100 out of 100’ IRVINE WELSH

Capitalism is dead. Welcome to technofeudalism.

In his boldest and most far-reaching book, the visionary economist and number-one bestselling author Yanis Varoufakis shows how the owners of big tech became the world's feudal overlords – replacing capitalism with a fundamentally new system that enslaves our minds, defies democracy and rewrite the rules of global power.

But as Varoufakis also reveals, technofeudalism contains new opportunities to thwart and overturn it, bringing into focus more clearly than ever the revolution we need to escape our digital prison.

‘An epochal, once-in-a-millennium shift . . . this isn't just new technology. This is the world grappling with an entirely new economic system and therefore political power’ Observer

‘An urgent demand to seize the means of computation’ CORY DOCTOROW

Critic Reviews

A book for anybody who wants to understand the mess we're in - and since we're all in this mess, that makes it a book for everybody (Slavoj Zizek)
With superb storytelling, Varoufakis shows how capitalism has eaten itself alive, mutating into an entirely different and more dangerous beast, and calls on us to free ourselves from digital serfdom (Brett Scott, author of Cloudmoney)
Provocative and accessible, this is sure to be a key touchstone in debates about the future of the global economy (Nick Srnicek, Kings College London)

Some hope for the grim world conditions

Feudalism is back and it aptly describes the lives of many. There is still some hope that this techno feudalism may also one day be turned over.

Great book, not filled filled with hope

Yanis is explains what has occurred, and asking us to change it. We are being called to over throw, both the government and the large institutions that used public money to i trench their feudal states.
Worth the tread, and I hope it creates change

Another brilliant book.

The authors expertise and vast knowledge comes to the fore in his latest book focusing on cloud capitalism and its impact on us all. A brilliant and confronting read. One of the highlights of the year.

Yanis is a master storyteller- whether or not you agree with his conceptualisation of our current world order, this book is worth a listen just for his narration which is delightful.

Acutely relevant, intelligent and original

The book presents complex themes in a way that is both technically detailed, but interesting. Addressing the book to his late father, Varoufakis brings humanity and passion to the global and technological problems of society and shows us a potential way ahead. The author reading it is a joy to listen to. Thankyou

where do you fit in the technofeudal world ?

Big perspective from someone who had a front row seat to the unfolding of a new political and economical era. I loved it.

A real disappointment

A real disappointment. I was hoping to hear how Varoufakis arrived at his theory of this new techno feudalism but he gives very little justification for his ideas. Most of the book is an ideological diatribe. The author seems enamoured with Marx which is sad as most people grow out of that with education and experience. Like Marx he makes a lot of grand pronouncements with very little evidence or real world examples to back it up. I laughed out loud when he suggested the we should manage things like the Eurovision song contest. I understand Varoufakis has experience with economics but, I've worked in tech for a long time and his knowledge and understanding of technology seems shallow. After reading economic discussion by people like Sowell this book is thin on substance. The book might be fine for someone looking for confirmation bias of their ideology but is sadly lacking in robust evidentiary support.
