Publisher's Summary
Tales from the Couch is collection of actual case studies and a primer on psychopathology as well as a captivating reflection on the human condition. Drawn from Dr. Bob Wendorf's 36-year career as a clinical psychologist, the book examines the lives of some of his most troubled patients in a project that aims to both educate and fascinate the listener. Clinical syndromes are described and dramatized by real-life case examples (altered only as necessary to protect patient confidentiality). Each of the 16 chapters focuses on a particular psychiatric diagnosis, including multiple personality disorder, Asperger's, and ADD.
The clinical picture and symptoms are described and explained, then brought to life by case examples taken from the author's practice. Dr. Wendorf presents the cases as a series of narratives - some dramatic, some humorous, most quite poignant. Along the way, the author offers his own reactions to the people and events described here and application to the general human condition as well.
Tales from the Couch offers compelling stories of extraordinary people, clinical conditions, and events - both in and out of the therapy hour - while providing insights into the nature of human beings, mental illness, and the psychotherapeutic enterprise.

Enjoyed this book until the chapter about Aspergers
I really enjoyed the first part of this book however the discussion of Aspergers and Autism was painfully outdated and I couldnt continue listening.

Engaging Stories and Narration
The stories contained in this book can really make you think or just learn more about humanity in general. I personally really enjoyed this book, though I found some stories contained to be quite extreme, so be prepared for them. The narrator really brought all the stories to life with his voice. But I found the speed to be a bit too fast for me so I had it on 0.9x speed and it was great. Thank you for this book!

Awful
As a Psychologist myself I felt myself feeling appalled at the attitude and narcissism of the author.
Could not finish it.

Narcissist psychologist looking to stroke his own ego
As a intern psychologist, this made me incredibly mad! There was blatant disrespect for his patients from the get go, and I couldn’t make it to the end. Some highlights from this so-called professional is the recommendation to spank children, calling his patients mentally retarded, describing how his female patients bodies looked in unnecessary detail, and acting like Gods gift to therapy throughout.
I cannot believe this was written in 2015! Such an outdated, uncomfortable listen. Please do not listen to this audiobook if you are a client- this is a catastrophically harmful and inaccurate representation of how therapists think/ feel about their clients.
