About this listen
Noah is in love with his online best friend. Which is a huge problem, for the following reasons:
1. His crush has no idea.
2. Noah only knows him as his gaming avatar.
3. There's zero chance they'll ever meet in real life.
So, when Noah sees an opportunity to secretly meet his crush, he takes it.
Even though he'll have to join the cast of a local production of Chicago with his self-obsessed mother. Even though he'll need to lie to his best (and only) friend. And even though he'll have to sing and dance in front of actual people.
Because love is worth the risk. And, really, what could possibly go wrong?

Heartwarming, hilarious, stressful - it's complex!
The first thing to acknowledge is that it is a treat to hear a story with our shared own version of English and with our antipodean humour. All of the elements resonated with my experience of growing up in OZ and NZ, especially the amateur dramatics.
I mentioned that the story was stressful. I started out laughing out loud and then moved to being aware of the impending consequences of decisions made by the characters as the story continued which added greatly to my stress levels. I was rooting for them and hoping for the happy ending, but also aware that it could all go south at any moment.
Matthew's reading was flawless. He gave life to each and every character with great sensitivity, and of course great Aussie charm. A narrative tour-de-force.
I recommend this to friends in other parts of the world as a way to encounter down-under humour which helps to explain our lack of formality and laid back attitudes. I have read reviews where some have said that the characters were not very nice, but I think this might be a misunderstanding of the use of sarcasm as a humorous device.
I highly recommend this!!

Excellent
Great story that rang true, loved the cameo from Jordan and Luca! The reader is terrific too. Hopefully a sequel one day!

Ok
Great narrator. I am not a fan of the Noah, I understand the lack of self-esteem, etc, but the lies and manipulation was frustrating. I had to fast forward so I could finish it. And what was that ending about? The end for me was definitely disappointing.
