FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE PERFECT COUPLE, NOW A MAJOR NETFLIX SERIES

There's a new couple in town . . . and they're shaking things up.

After thirty-five years as the Chief of Police on Nantucket, Ed Kapenash's heart can no longer take the stress.

But his plans to retire are thwarted when, with only three days left on the job, he receives a phone call. The Richardsons' 22-million-dollar summer home has been burned to the ground. The couple are far from hurt - they were out on the water at one of their lavish yacht parties. But their dependable personal assistant has vanished.

To solve the case, the Chief will have to contend with small town gossip for one final act of service to the community he knows and loves.

A propulsive sun-soaked drama featuring some of Elin Hildebrand's most beloved characters - and of course, the beautiful and timeless island of Nantucket itself.©2024 Elin Hilderbrand (P)2024 Hodder & Stoughton Limited

Editorial Review

A fantastic finish
I have a confession: Swan Song is the first Elin Hilderbrand novel I’ve ever listened to—it certainly won’t be my last—but it is the author’s last book ("for now" she says in her author’s note). I thoroughly enjoyed this glittery, gossipy, and glamorous story with its delightful setting and intriguing cast of characters. The premise for Swan Song couldn’t be more fitting for Hilderbrand’s final novel. Nantucket’s police chief is just days away from sailing off into retirement when, on the same night, one of the island’s most luxurious homes burns down under suspicious circumstances and a young woman goes missing. The investigation moves forward in parallel with riveting stories of family, friendship, and love among the island’s swanky residents, and you won’t want to hit pause until the end of the final chapter (performed by the author herself). As Hilderbrand’s long-time narrator, Erin Bennett knows just how to transport you straight to the heart of Nantucket to bring these characters and storylines to life. I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last we hear from the "Queen of beach reads," but in the meantime, I’ll be happily digging into her backlist of summertime staples. — Margaret H., Audible Editor

great story terrible Australian accent !

i reaaly enjoyed the story however I think unless you have an Australian to do an accent or atleast do an accent that sounds Australian then dont do it. Also if you are talking about places in Australia then you should learn how to prounounce them. Null arbor is not how you pronouce Nullarbor! This would be much more authentic.

Trite, and beware the narration

I nearly stopped after the first couple of chapters. The narration is jarring and distracting. It's unnecessary and unwelcome to use silly voices to distinguish between characters. All of the male characters sound like cartoons. The Australian accent was ludicrous. I would not have purchased this if I'd previewed first.
As is often the case, the prologue was superfluous. Ostensibly about the last case of a retiring chief of police, that character and the case are minor, not central. The case is an after thought and wrapped up quickly with a bow.
Tonally gossipy and trite. It's not meant to be deep. So light it floats away like a balloon full of helium.
