Evocation of beauty
Will Payton’s narration is supreme. I love all the New Iberia novels, but, Swan Peak is my favourite and the scariest. Clete is my man. Thank you, JLB, do it again!

Another JLB masterpiece
I have always been a voracious reader. And was captivated from the first page of the first Dave Robicheaux novel I read, many years ago.
And then I listened to a Dave Robicheaux audiobook, narrated by Will Patton - and I must confess to have read maybe one or two more JLB novels in print versions, because Will Patton narrating James Lee Burke novels are about as perfect as storytelling gets.
I think Burke is among the finest writers in America today. To call his books "crime thrillers" is like calling the Bayeaux tapestry a decent wall hanging. Every JLB novel is an immersive journey. Through history, geography, music, and most of all, the human experience. Characters carried along a river of the finest prose, delineated against wonderfully descriptive backdrops, from the oppressive humidity of the Louisiana bayous to the vast tracts of the American West.
And what ties it all together so perfectly is the wondrous continuity of Life-force that Patton brings to the characters. The voice he gives to Robicheaux and Purcell, "the Bobbsey Twins from Homicide",
This, like I keep saying, IS storytelling perfection.
And Swan Peak, has it all: Deep evil, ambiguous morality, visually perfect action sequences - and at the center, Robicheaux and Purcell battling for the lost and marginalized, with all their personal demons riding their backs.
I'll say it again - another James Lee Burke masterpiece.
