About this listen
Just like all little girls, I hoped I was special and that one day my powers would be revealed. My parents would be bewildered, my friends would equally worship and envy me, and my bullies would run away in terror! Nothing happened when I turned 10. I didn't grow wings at 12, still wasn't able to make things move with my mind at 14, and at 16, I was already too old to believe in such nonsense. Well, what do you think happened the day I turned 18? I got the confirmation that I was only human. In the mail! Oh, and also an invitation to apply to the Grim Reaper Academy. Because, apparently, humans can be Grim Reapers, too.
Fast forward to day one, semester one, year one. There's a test! No one told me I'd have to take a test to enter! But there are only 22 Reapers in the world, the competition is tough, so I guess it makes sense? If I pass, then I will be sorted according to what kind of Death I'll make if I survive the rigors of the Academy.
But this is my chance, dammit! This is what I've been waiting for all my life! Okay, so I'm not a princess, or a mermaid, or Sailor Moon. But I can be a Grim Reaper one day. I'll take it!
Contains mature themes.

***BULLYING TO THE MAX***
Be aware that the fmc was bullied relentlessly in the beginning to nearly the end. And no one came to her rescue and because she is a norm (human) she can't really do anything to fight back. Still an interesting and entertaining story. I can't wait for her to comes to her powers and starts to fights back. The narrative ia fantastic.

Great story
Loved the story line and characters. Be aware there is swearing even the “C” word is used don’t know why authors feel the need to have swearing in their stories ( it is not necessary)

Good story line. But I’m confused
It’s supposed to be set modern day. And they are suppose to be 18. However the rest of the academy (bar MC) aren’t. And it’s very confusing. Would make more sense to have them as the great x100 grandkids instead of them from the Old Testament in modern day. But if you think of them as the grandkids makes a lot more sense. Especially the maturity level of them all

Don’t bother
Anyone seen Harry potter? And seriously these guys literally make her life miserable then the first time they call her by her real name. She jumps off a cliff to prove she’s “one of them” even though she is THE ONLY MORTAL out of most of them and the tuff guy calling the shots can’t actually die!!!! Most disappointing main female character yet!

Story has potential but damn the female lead’s naivety & petulance is excruciating
I’m going to read the second book in the hope that it relieves the feeling of excruciating irritation at the female lead. The narrator did a great job and the story has me intrigued enough to give the second book a go. I understand the need for her to be ignorant and unknowing of the paranormal world but I can’t but feel that … she has little real character. I can’t say I found any strength in her actions or responses, or anything to ‘like’ about her really. She’s bratty, petulant, whingey and words like stupid and twit kept coming to mind. One minute she’s supposedly curious, coz that’s her a thing, but when it comes to getting answers she either doesn’t want to hear them, or responds with a kind of confusion that is almost mindless stupidity, which doesn’t match up with the good marks she gets in classes. I wish she was depicted with some intelligence, or atleast enough wits to have used the extra time she had to study when avoiding being bullied to learn about the supernaturals she found herself amidst. I can’t say I found any of the other characters less … petulant, lacking in depth of character, arrogant, shallow? Apart from the males being physically attractive to her, so far it seems that that fact, and the protection they offer is all that draws her to them - but even that she responds to with very little intention and … whinges and complains, I didn’t pick up on any gratitude or connection between them. To be fair (because I’m not into uninformed or premature criticism, and have respect for authors who put themselves and their craft out into the world) in the context of bullying and an expected degree of mistrust (and her mostly lost and confused state) perhaps it’s a little appropriate but by the end of book one I would normally … ‘like’ the males and the building of connection-attraction between them. It’s also, entirely possible that the lack of depth of characters and details about the world and school is part of conveying how far out of her depth and in the dark she is in a totally foreign world, and that I’m negatively reacting to a young female character who has yet to find her backbone and live into much strength of character or sense of self because I like to think I’d be different in her circumstances. Maybe I’ll conclude that her ignorant and confused state didn’t need to go on for a whole book, or maybe I’ll find that the frustration I felt played a necessary part in my enjoyment of a character who goes through her hero’s journey and finds her strength, place and purpose. So, on to the second book because I’m intrigued to see how the story develops re: her hero’s journey and hopeful that more character and stronger connection and bonds with develop between the characters.
