Publisher's Summary
As Captain Brett Crozier walked down the gangplank of the USS Theodore Roosevelt for the very last time, the servicemen and women who had been under his command chanted his name and cheered adoringly. A few days earlier, Crozier had written a strongly worded letter to his superiors, expressing the urgency of a COVID-19 outbreak on board his ship, which could spell catastrophe if immediate action would not be taken.
Although relieved of his command as a result, Crozier's actions ultimately saved hundreds of lives. He was lauded as a hero for his courage and made headline news across the world for his principled stand against U.S. Navy top brass.
In Surf When You Can, Crozier shares his inspirational lessons for leadership and mantras for living that culminated in that moment. Picked up from 30 years of impeccable service and implemented in combat arenas around the globe, here are 11 memorable rules - from 'Never Turn Down an Espresso' to 'Communicate Fearlessly' to 'Take A Stand' - that anyone can utilise to help become a better leader, a more positive person and, like Captain Crozier, to inspire trust and loyalty in those around them.

Great insight into an evolving career
As a military leadership book, this was excellent insight to how this senior officer’s career changed over the years and the vulnerability to start over when changing paths. He was open and direct about mistakes made, I found his experiences inspiring. For non-Military people, he explains everything in detail so you’re not lost in Navy jargon.
