About this listen
Our Bedtime Stories are designed to let you drift off with no nagging feeling that you need to listen through to the end. Their purpose is to let you slowly fall into peaceful, restful sleep.
With that in mind, we present actor Brian Cox—Golden Globe winner for his portrayal of media tycoon Logan Roy in HBO’s Succession—returning to his Scottish roots with these evocative tales from the Scottish Highlands.
Brian Cox, born in Dundee, Scotland, has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theater extensively, where he gained recognition for his portrayal of King Lear. He played supporting roles in Rob Roy (1995) and in Mel Gibson’s Academy Award-winning Braveheart (1995). A winner of two Olivier Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Golden Globe Award, he was appointed to the Order of the British Empire at the rank of Commander.

Fit for purpose
Im interested in finding out about highland folklore, but I am none the wiser after listening to this meandering meditation. I always fall asleep a few minutes in.

A little off with the fairies
I love myth and folklore. This book though seemed to be pretty shallow merely wafting over details without really digging any claws in. Could have been a lot beefier and is a seeming waste of the brilliant Brian Cox's talent. His voice is perfect for audio books. Up there with Freeman, Neeson and and Earl-Jones.

Creepy in the best way
Loved it. So intriguing and disconcerting. Fairies and elves have always disturbed me. Now I know why. Must be the Scottish blood far in our family background responding. Magnificent reading.

Interesting
The facts presented were interesting but the reader’s voice was monotone without any inflection. The headings were read in the same voice therefore missed.

Mixed tales of Scottish folklore
My mothers family is all from Scotland, and she spent the first 17 years of her life there. ( I’ve never been & live in Australia). I felt my grandfather’s nostalgia for the mysteries and superstitions of the Highlands in this read. He was full of stories himself. There’s obviously no conclusions as it’s titled superstitions! The author is true to his book title and his narration exudes in his delight at sharing the stories behind the many myths from the Scottish Highlands. Sit back, close your eyes and you’ll easily visualise mischief!

Magickal & spirited.
Such a glimpse as I’ve not heard before concerning the faire folk & lore. To be sure.

Fabulous & the reading is superlative
Equally fascinating and informative, for one who knows nought of the Fairies, and Brian Cox's reading is pure magic - the most beautiful reading I've heard . Short and very sweet.

Love stories and from the actual 'sources'.
Brian Cox as narrator was perfect for this bedtime story. Gentle and kinda believable.
I did love the storyline of mythology from Scotland in particular.
Too bad I actually kept falling asleep and had to set the timer for 10mins each time.
