About this listen

'Stone cold sober.' Sounds horrible, doesn't it? Hard, icy. Brrrrr. No bloody ta.

However, as the millions who choose to stay sober now know, the propaganda around drinking and sobriety is wonky. Sober doesn't feel stony, or cold.

Retired wreckhead Catherine Gray, author of surprise best seller The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober, is now in her ninth sober year and has learnt a damn sight more.

This hotly anticipated sequel enlists the help of experts and case studies, turning a curious, playful gaze onto provocative questions. Is alcohol a parenting aid? Why are booze and cocaine such a horse and carriage? Once an addict, always an addict? How do you feel safe—from alcohol, others and yourself—in sobriety?

Whether you're a dedicated boozehound, flirting with teetotalling or already sober, this witty, gritty listen may just change how you think about alcohol forever.

Great listen!

Great story - overall the talking was annoyingly quiet at times like a whisper which doesn’t work on a listening platform. But mostly and otherwise amazing!

Perfectly articulated for those who have a little sobriety time behind them

Loved this book because it’s focussed on the future. So many “quit lit” are memoirs of all the awful times, this is the complete opposite. As usual Catharine Gray (no relation to me) captured me from beginning to end with a combo of all you’ll need to stay inspired all with a good dose of keeping it light and entertaining. Loved it.

Some good pockets of wisdom from someone very knowledgeable

I loved the first book and Catherine Gray is amazing and so well respected for her work. I found this one to be more about going down memory lane and drunken nights so I ended up skipping lots. Some great pockets and thought provoking insights however.

It’s a comforting book for us sobers

Loved the flow of the story telling, sharing of other peoples stories and the way the book shares info about each sober year.

The perspective of long term sobriety in all it’s honesty

Catherine Grey has a way of speaking to you like you’re a confidant. Sharing her inner most secrets, demons and the way her brain is wired from the misuse of alcohol. Her wit carries you through a very intense, emotional and familiar story that feels like I’ve written it myself. Nodding my head in agreement and holding my heart at the tough stuff. This book will make you feel seen, without the trauma dumps and glorification of alcohol. Another amazing hit for CG!

A bit all over the place

I found this book jumped around a lot and was a bit hard to follow. There's some great parts but you have to wade through a lot of her random reminiscing to get there. There's a lot of reminiscing! I was hoping to read more about the future of sobriety, not the boozy past.
