About this listen
From number one best-selling author Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson comes the first of three Skyward series novellas, set between Starsight and Cytonic.
When a planet-destroying Delver suddenly appears in the sky of Detritus and vanishes just as suddenly, FM knows that the last free human society got lucky. Her Skyward Flight companion Spensa figured out how to draw this Delver away, but it won't be so easy next time.
The forces of the Galactic Superiority will be back - and if the Defiant Defense Force can't figure out a way to escape the planet, humanity's destruction is only a matter of time. Spensa's mission to infiltrate the Superiority unveiled the secret to their hyperdrives - a cytonic slug species called the Taynix. Now FM's flight leader Jorgen has found a large group of Taynix hiding in the caverns far below Detritus' surface.
FM and Jorgen must work together with the engineer, Rig, to awaken the mysterious alien Alanik and unlock the powers of the Taynix, or humanity will be trapped. With Spensa's friend, Minister Cuna of the Superiority, stranded at the outpost of Sunreach, they need to figure out how to rescue her - before her foes in the Superiority government can prepare a new weapon to wipe out Detritus once and for all.

Brilliant as always
Sanderson is my absolute favourite and this collab with Janci Patterson is worth the credit, even if it only goes for a few hours. I do miss Sophie Aldred's narration as I love her use of diverse accents and voices in the main series, but this narrator is also very capable and pleasant to listen to.

Scud it's good
This is a fantastic story, but having been spoiled by listening to Sophie Aldred read the main series, it's hard to hear the different pronunciation of names by the reader.
I do appreciate the effort and thank the reader for her range of voices given to each character!

Awesome! Great addition to the skyward series.
This book is exactly what the series needed. Star-Sight left me wanting more of the original skyward flight and their interactions and this is exactly what this book delivered (Minus Spensa). Mega Props to Janci Patterson for her work on the series, the transition felt almost seamless.

Read it all in a week, instantly bought the next!
I loved the whole story and tone of Sunreach. A tight well crafted adventure across space, the main character is intensely likeable and is narrated with great skill making it easy to bond to her quickly.
The Book is much shorter than other books that Brandon Sanderson has worked on previously, but it is a strength of the work, making it far less intimidating than other books.
Credit to Janci Patterson, this is the first book I have read of theirs and they have weaved an exciting and intriguing introduction to a new world that has left me itching to explore more.

Almost perfect
Great novella. Very interesting to see the events from a different point of view.
Narrator is good. Except when she says “Spensa” she sounds like Mark Wahlberg, and I just can’t un-hear it. It’s very off-putting. I don’t know why she puts on a Boston accent for only that one name. Besides that, she was great. Very easy to listen to, made different character voices well - particularly the slugs. She was great at the slugs.

Disappointed
Disappointed after loving the first series so much. This one felt much more YA. Also the change in narrator really grated. Especially the different pronunciation of some names.

Brandon is one of my favourite writers, but this…
This feels like it was written for teenagers, and maybe it has. Very basic. Somewhat like the TV show Slug Terra. I was expecting epic battles with big leviathans.
Suzy Jackson does a good job, even with male voices.
