About this listen
A life in shambles
Lyr might be a powerful elven lord in charge of thousands, but his personal life is a disaster. Just the month before, a daughter he'd never known existed arrived from Earth, giving him news of his lost love's death. Since then he has been betrayed, captured, and almost murdered. And though his enemy was defeated, Lyr's wounds never seem to heal. He certainly doesn't need more conflict.
A perilous journey
Amid the glittering perfection of Alfheim, Meli is a dismal failure. Haunted by visions of people and places she's never seen, she struggles to find her place. So when her king orders her to lead an expedition to another world, Meli is caught between shock and terror. How can she navigate the veil between worlds with no magic of her own? But with Alfheim threatened by strange, dark energy, she has no choice.
A threat that spans worlds
The last thing Lyr expects is the arrival of the Ljósálfar, the reclusive Norse elves of Alfheim. More surprising? One among them, Meli, is a possible soulbounded, a link he'd believed lost with his previous love. But wounded and besieged with problems on every side, he can't let himself be distracted. Poisoned energy is flooding into the closely connected realms of the fae, causing sickness, and Lyr must rush to find the source of the threat.
Only Moranaia remains untouched - leading Lyr to suspect one of his own people might be to blame.

I love the story so far.. I am struggling with the 'tones' Gabrielle the narrator adds in especially when she gets them confused and uses the wrong one.. but I power through for the story. it's very enjoyable.

Great story.
I am enjoying the story but having the narrator swap really takes me out of the narrative.

Meli and Lyr
Meli is brought up in Ljosalfar. These fae are reclusive Norse Elves.
Their small kingdom is ruled by an autonomous Queen.
Her land is being ravaged by a poisoned energy, flooding in from earth to connecting realms of Fae.
Despite Meli’s family being regal, Meli has no magic worth a dime, and once tested again, will be relegated into obscurity.
She is sent with a small delegation to Lyr’s Moranaia, to seek help.
Lyr and Meli feel a life bond link. Lyr doesn’t understand it as he believed Arlyn’s mother was his bond link.
More of the poisoning of the kingdoms are revealed, and who is behind it.
Kai learns who is father is.
Lyr learns who Meli is.

An okay read
I was really considering not finishing this title. Having listened to the first book I was used to the abrupt change in narrator midway through he chapter but this got extremely confusing as each narrator was narrating no less than four different characters of the same gender. It was quite difficult to follow along. The story was virtually the same as the first book. Another couple instantly becomes "soul bonded", despite the characters mentioning how rare the occurrence is. The lead female character is lacklustre and absolutely boring. She is riddled with self doubt and doesn't really contribute anything other than angst to the plot. It's a shame that a story about elves turned out to be so boring and uneventful. I am not going to continue with the rest of the series. I'm just glad it was included for free on the Audible membership because I would have been really annoyed if I had paid for it.
