Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
From the number one bestselling author of Our Little Cruelties and Skin Deep.
Sally Diamond cannot understand why what she did was so strange. She was only doing what her father told her to do, to put him out with the rubbish when he died.
Now Sally is the centre of attention, not only from the hungry media and worried police, but also a sinister voice from a past she has no memory of. As she begins to discover the horrors of her childhood, recluse Sally steps into the world for the first time, making new friends, finding independence, and learning that people don't always mean what they say.
But when messages start arriving from a stranger who knows far more about her past than she knows herself, Sally's life will be thrown into chaos once again...

Dark , clever & incredibly moving
Wow !! What a deeply involving , disturbing and rich tale .
The depth of characters, the intricacies of their lives and the movement through decades … not for the faint of heart this is a unique story painful at times but definitely worth it …

Captivating
Wow! Brilliant. What started off as a quirky tale, grew into a dark story that I couldn’t stop listening to. The narrators did a fantastic job. Possibly the best audiobook I’ve ever listed to.

Very compelling, couldn’t put it down
Very, very dark but exceptionally written, and performed. I really couldn’t put it down. One of those books that will stay with you forever.

Excellent
A well researched, authentic, page turner. One of the best to come out of Ireland lately (and that is saying something as most Irish literary works are excellent).

I loved it.
Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent.
My friend, Ashley, basically forced me to read this book. She would not shut up about it until I promised I would read it (that’s how I remember it, anyway). I finished the book two weeks ago, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Everyone here knows I love a quirky character, and Sally Diamond fits perfectly into that niche. But Sally isn’t strange for fun, and this book makes that perfectly clear as the damage and trauma of her childhood are unravelled.
The book is divided into two timelines, perspectives, and countries (Ireland and New Zealand). It is full of violence and trauma; however, the majority of it is alluded to. There are a few horrible scenes, but they are necessary to fully understand the characters’ motivations and how they have been victims of being emotionally manipulated.
I give it a big thumbs up. 👍 (Ashley was right, but don't tell her I said so).
