When in the mood for nostalgia....

Miss Read writes of an England one presumes is long gone as one reads from afar of so many things apparently going wrong. It was not without its problems - for example, one wonders why the Coggs family were not supported much earlier, and is not sentimental in the slightest. It is old fashioned comfort reading, much loved by my Granny decades ago, and sometimes just fits the bill. Excellent narration by June Barrie.

Disapproving tone of reader ruined this for me

I had long looked forward to burying myself in this book as a lovely escape but the very snooty and disapproving tone of the reader ruined the experience and I gave up after a couple of hours. So disappointing.
