About this listen
This Splash Read collection includes four historical fiction short stories about entrepreneurs and inventors:
"J.C. Penny and the Golden Rule": Teenager J.C. Penny is excited when he starts his first job at the local convenience store. He witnesses the store owner being dishonest with customers and must decide how to respond.
"Louis and Regina Create a Business": After leaving their life in Europe for a new home in the United States, Louis and Regina must quickly find a way to make ends meet. After several failed ventures, the couple identify a business opportunity that fits their skills.
"Arthur Fry Invents Post-It Notes": At a 3M company meeting, Arthur Fry hears about a sticky chemical substance created by another employee. He quickly realizes that the substance could be a solution to a problem he has been trying to solve.
"Joel and the YouTuber Help Liberia": Facing hunger, a leaky roof, and other challenges, Joel sends a message to his favorite YouTuber. Joel and the YouTuber team up to create a product that allows Joel to feed his family and help his community.
While Splash Read stories are enjoyed by kids of all ages, they were written to facilitate a conversation between a child and parent or student and teacher. Each story introduces an influential person from history. Stories discuss life skills, challenges, problem-solving, and important issues. We’ve heard positive reviews from kids as young as first graders and as old as 10th graders.
