About this listen
Over a decade after violating the ruthless orders of his superiors in the Basilean military, ex-legion captain Dionne emerges from hiding in the Mountains of Tarkis, leading a force of rebels against the dark forces of the Abyss. Desperate to clamp down on the popular rebel leader, the Basilean Duma dispatches a force to bring the former legion officer to justice.
Leading the paladins of this force is Tancred, freshly promoted and harboring political ambitions of his own. Under the brutal leadership of Hugh, the commander of the force, Tancred must struggle to find the right balance between obeying orders, following the path of righteousness, and advancing his own ambitions.

The kings of war (outdated) book.
It’s really adorable when they call the world Mantica. Mantic games had renamed the world in the third edition of Kings of war.
Anyway, to the book. It goes the way a person would think the plot would go. The world is politically good enough within the small scope of the book. The power fantasy is fun. It is generic and something to listen to when you want to turn your brain off...
So it’s perfect for painting miniatures, mission accomplished.
Note to third edition kings of war fans.
There was no northern alliance, kingdom of men, or empire of dust when this book was made. So just ignore the plot inconsistencies.
EG. where’s the northern alliance at? Demon incursions wouldn’t be favourable for them and they have their own teaching of how demons are bad, Basalia doesn’t have a monopoly on the being the peoples who stop demons so the knowledge about demons being bad would be true in many cultures other then Basalia (villain proceeds to term up with Rat kin because they don’t like the Abyss and Basalia) The main villain would seek refuge in the kingdoms of men due to Basalia and the many kingdoms being on variable terms of peace and many of the kingdoms would want him as a general of their army’s. Finally the undead side episode that took place would be a part of the Empire of dust due to the age of the tomb but the location is too far north from the empire and “purification” being shunned pretty much every where other then the Empire of dust means that the likelihood of the tomb’s existence is low ahh well that part of the story was just for character development.
