About this listen

New York Times best-seller and number one in romance.

You're not supposed to want the one who torments you. When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn't prepared for how much of a jerk he'd be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn't want to be here. I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room. But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard, tattooed abs and chiseled face. But things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night. Then, just as quickly as he'd come into my life, he went back to California.

It had been years since I'd seen Elec. When tragedy struck our family, I'd have to face him again. And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane. I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

High angst, involving characters, excellent narration

Firstly, I usually prefer duet narration, and not female only narration. However Simone Lewis did a great job as the sole narrator of this one.
I love Penelope Wards books but they do tend to take you in an emotional roller coaster. This one was very high angst throughout. I did feel involvement in the characters and felt warmth for their struggles and dilemmas.
The hero had a very turbulent past and carried a lot of anger and even nastiness in his teens. This was understandable when we do get the backstory. However he could be cruel to the heroine and this was hard to take at times.
He also liked sex on the rough side and that's not something I enjoy in romance books. A penchant for choke holds was one troubling habit that other readers may want to be warned about.
The book was well written but I gave it less than five stars because of the continuing angry habits with sex when his adolescence was far behind and the roughness of it.

Good story line.

It took me a little to get into the book as young Greta and Theo were little too corny. But really like them when they were old. Really liked the Theo’s memoirs. What a story regarding his father, fathers son and mum. Very messed up situation.

the second half was a struggle

I liked the author's writing style. her intimate scenes are quite steamy. But I could do without the exhausting anguish of the characters and the repetition.

The first half of the book was quite good. It would've made a great novel on it's own.
A couple of hours worth of the first part were repeated in the second part from but the guy's perspective, which didn't add much to the story. descriptions of physical appearance were also repetitive. I got bored and found it difficult to finish. too much character torment for my taste.
