About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin

Thrawn and his allies race to save the Chiss Ascendancy from an unseen enemy in the second book in the epic Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

Thrawn's latest triumph still rests newly on his shoulders. Despite leading the Chiss to victory and bringing glory to the House of Mitth, the true threat to the Ascendancy has not yet been extinguished. Their foes do not send threats or ultimatums, or mass ships on the edge of the Chaos. Their weapons come cloaked in smiles and generosity: gifts offered freely. Services granted unconditionally.

Across the Ascendancy, seemingly inconsequential events could herald the doom of the Chiss. As Thrawn and the Expansionary Defense Fleet rally to uncover the enemy plot, they discover a chilling truth: rather than invade Chiss capitals or pillage their resources, they strike at the very foundation of the Ascendancy, seeking to widen the rifts between the Nine Ruling Families and the Forty Great Houses below. As rivalry and suspicion sow discord among allies, each warrior must decide what matters most to them: the security of their family, or the survival of the Ascendancy itself.

Ascendancy world building.

Zahn continues to build intrigue and character layers into the Chiss and Thrawn. Though potentially the tricks do turn were less impressive in this outing. The story was still entertaining non the less.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fantastic continuation

Another fantastic story of the EU and the continued development of Thrawn. The performance was excellent with a realistic sounding individuals. Granted some of the female characters struggled but overall it was excellent

Masterfully written, convoluted storyline narrated to perfection!

Another fabulous Thrawn book. Timothy Zahn is a master of subtly weaving seemingly unrelated threads into a cohesive and solid picture. The story was engaging and fascinating with excellent plot twists.
Marc Thompson is the perfect narrator - his ability to switch between voices gives each character a distinctive personality and the subtlety of his performance makes the whole story believable

Enthralling and great world building. More please!

I am absolutely loving this series so far.

Marc Thompson is the only man for the job for narrating Star Wars!

In its whole, this 2nd book has continued the tone bought forward from the first book. The main diversion from the 1st book is that this delves a lot deeper into the some of the more far reaching politics of the Ascendancy itself.
Some may dislike the amount of time spent away from Thrawn himself but I think that it is in integral part in creating a brand new setting for future stories to come out of this newly discovered part of the Star Wars Galaxy. And what better Author to do it then Timothy Zahn.
I cant wait till the next one later in the year! Additionally i think there is plenty of room in my library for books based on other characters already intrudced as well as ones ready to emerger from the Ascendancy, fingers crossed.
