About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Dr. Chelli Lona Aphra, rogue archaeologist, is in trouble again.

A pioneer in the field of criminal xenoarchaeology, Aphra recognizes no law, has no fear, and possesses no impulse control. To her, the true worth of the galactic relics she discovers isn’t found in a museum, but in an arsenal. This viewpoint has led to a lot of misunderstandings. After her latest plan goes horribly wrong, her criminal past is on the verge of catching up to her, when suddenly Darth Vader, terror of the galaxy, swoops in with his lightsaber ignited, and...saves her life?

Don’t get her wrong—it’s not like she’s ungrateful. Sure, her new boss is a lord of the Sith. And OK, she may have just become a pawn in a deadly game being played by him and HIS boss, who happens to be the Galactic Emperor. And yes, the life expectancy of anyone who disappoints Vader can be measured in seconds.

But she’s back doing what she does best. She’s got a ship to fly, a heist to pull, and two unorthodox but effective metal buddies: Triple-Zero, a protocol droid specializing in etiquette, customs, translation and torture, and BT-1, an astromech loaded with enough firepower to take down a battlecruiser. Together, they might just find a way to get the job done and avoid the deadly performance review that waits at its conclusion.

Just kidding. She’s doomed.

Overall I enjoyed it

The story telling was really good, sound effects in the background were a welcomed addition for me .

Star Wars meets Usual Suspects meets Indiana Jones

Doctor Aphra is definitely one of the recent standout characters. While there are some hit and misses in this story. It definitely is something, the acting, the sound effects, the new characters such as Triple 000 and BT are definitely standouts. It is worth listening to

The BEST!

Doctor Aphra’s story picks up between A New Hope and TESB - it includes so many of our favourite characters and is performed in such an amazing way! This is my favourite audio drama I’ve listened to! The music was on point, the jokes always landed and I am now obsessed with Triple Zero and Aphra!! I highly recommend this story!

I struggled to get in to the 1st person story telling but after the 3rd chapter I really got in to it and enjoyed the whole story

Excellent

I reckon I do not finish about 90% of the Star Wars books I have tried to read. Aphra is different, witty, fun, and 100% finished. And, narration is the best. Better than a movie.

Pretty meh

It’s copying a story from the early 2016 Darth Vader comics and I was under the impression it was a new story. It’s good to know the authors thought 0-0-0 sounded the way I thought. Aphra is very marvel hero like where she literally says “that sounded better in my head” I prefer Doctor Aphra in the comics but it was good to revisit the story.

Horrendous

I'll start with the positive. The full cast was pretty great. Excellent narration and decent sound effects.

That's it. This was a poorly written book hiding behind the veil of star wars and it's hero characters.

Very average character development, too many missions without any depth or value to them, and a main character so delusional about her relationships and abilities that made listening to this a complete eye roll.

I kept going because I hoped it would improve, but it just continuously got worse. I'd stick with the comic, cause this was awful.

Tries to be edgy but barely gets to mediocre.

This is not really a star wars book. It has star ears characters but is really just a mess of confused stories and characters trying to be edgy but really represent what trauma looks like when not dealt with in healthy way. The main character is a narcissistic immature young women in so much pain that she has to inflict it on others in an attempt to somehow minimise her own hurt. This is not a good book. This is not even an ok book. This is not something that a healthy person should listen to if they want to stay healthy.
